1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JXI 2.5L

Summary:

Real good car

Faults:

I love that car, but there's one thing that makes me mad; when I brake, the car stalls and I need to restart it every stop. I changed the throttle position sensor, but it still does the same.

Please, I need some help because I need it to go work. Thanks all.

1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible 6 cylinder

Summary:

This car hates me!

Faults:

Things that have gone wrong with this "wonderful" car include the clear coat is gone off the paint, so instead of a white car I now have a black speckled car!

The motor on the top has been out, so to put it up or down you have to do it manually. I'm talking standing on the back seat, ducking my head, while pulling with every ounce of strength my 100 pound body can muster!

The back window has separated from the top, and can only be replaced by buying an entire new top, so whenever it rains and how much it rains is inside my car!

Now for the engine! Let's just say that whenever I drove the car, I would have nothing but problems, so I would have a friend test drive it and he would come back saying "it ran just fine"! So one day I'm driving my son to school, and am making a left hand turn in the middle of the busiest intersection our town has, oh and did I mention it was pouring rain! The car died and wouldn't restart, so I jumped out and pushed it, while my son steered, while a Policeman followed behind with his lights on, for about a tenth of a mile!

I left the car parked, and two days later my friend drove it to his house, again without any problems. Again I drive it to take my son to school and I had to pull over at least 8 different times and the car would make a "snap, crackle, pop noise (I was hoping it would just blow up! The car sat for a couple of weeks and then I followed behind it as it ran "JUST FINE" to a friends house!

1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JXI 2.5

Summary:

Overall the car is fun, but it has nickel/dimed me so I will be buying a HONDA once this car is gone

Faults:

Catalytic converter. The car was losing power/almost stalling.

Had to have the top & rear window replaced (Sept '08) due to the stitching coming loose & the rear window popping out, new $1,000 in South Jersey.

Door hinges have been replaced twice. They keep breaking because the doors are so long and heavy.

Sometimes my lights on the rear view mirror won't work. Not sure why. I think there might be an electrical short? Any advice would be appreciated!

Recently all the gauges will periodically not work, and the service engine light will come on. I've had the car scanned while the service engine light was still on (the gauges of course were working correctly). The problem was UNIDENTIFIABLE! A friend told me to hit the dashboard, because he knew someone that had the same problem, and the person hit the dashboard and the gauges started working, so that's what I did, and the gauges started working again!

There's always heat coming out of the bottom near my feet. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Leather seats are cracking. I was told by the man that replaced the top on my car, that the seats are cracking because they weren't properly treated.. I did apply leather cleaner etc to the seats, but obviously not often enough. So take care of your leather seats!

General Comments:

The car is very quick and fun!

My 98 Sebring Convertible would lose power and almost stall, then it would be OK. I took my car to a Chrysler dealership; they said I needed the fuel injectors cleaned. I paid to have that done approx. $150.00. That didn't stop the loss of power/almost stalling from happening.

I took the car to a different Chysler dealership. They told me the fuel injectors were bad. I forget how much they were, but they were very expensive, so I bought used fuel injectors from a junk yard, and a friend of mine was going to install them. As he was about to remove the fuel injectors, he didn't think my fuel injectors were bad, so he put the car up on the lift and hit the catalytic converter with his hand, and found the problem that NO ONE else could figure out, not even TWO Chrysler dealerships. To determine if the catalytic converter is bad, he hit, slapped the catalytic converter, and the inside rattled like there was a bunch of rust inside it. Tell your mechanic to check your catalytic converter! Good luck!
