Faults:

The gauge cluster went out in the first month of ownership

Driver's side door seal - fixed under warranty.

A lot of transmission issues - never could replicate the issue, they flashed the computer several times. Last time fixed the issue of hard shifts and Chrysler extended the warranty on the transmission till 120k.

Oil pan replaced under warranty.

Top of radiator, electronic throttle body, alternator. After warranty.

The car eats brakes and shocks.

That’s all in 10.5 years and 176k miles.

General Comments:

The car is good for long drives, it’s quiet and smooth to ride in.

The car is awful at hard/quick braking, sharp turns/cornering, and the worst blind spots I have ever experienced. I can never really see out of the car.

I believe if the Avenger is taken care of it will last well over 200k miles.

Mine is still doing good.

Faults:

Power steering hose leak at 53k, fixed under warranty.

Heater blend door actuator at 95k, part was 27$CDN online, fixed it myself in 20 minutes.

General Comments:

Good fuel mileage, very reliable, and fun to drive.

I drove this car 17 hours straight, through mountains, from Alberta to Vancouver Island. All in one go. My Avenger never even had a hiccup the entire drive.

I've done all the recommended services by the FCA maintenance. My dealership has been very helpful.

Faults:

> Radiator hose broke at around 106,000km. No big deal, was $120 CDN part and total $220 CDN to fix.

> A squirrel chewed a couple electrical wires. Was about $55 CDN to fix.

> I had to replace the gas cap since it was worn and the gas cap light came on. Cost $13 CDN to fix (DIY).

That is all. Currently owned just past 4 years, 74,000km put onto it (46,250 miles).

General Comments:

I enjoy the Blacktop Avenger. The Blacktop is a package added on the normal Avenger that, put simply, turns the entire car black. I find it an under-rated "budget" car. I like the older, simplified styling cues and the ease to drive.

I have owned the car since Dec 2015 (4 years, 1 month), bought used and put 74,000 km on it so far (total 149,000 km).

I have had very few issues. I've replaced maintenance items. I keep maintenance up on this car, and it keeps going fine so far. Despite being told it would be terribly unreliable and have all these issues - it is proving the nay-sayers wrong.

The 173 hp four cylinder isn't fast, but it is enough to get the job done. The engine revs fairly high, and gives off a nice note.

The fuel consumption is not bad. It can pass EPA ratings (I got 32 mpg full highway once). Often it seems it gets around EPA - about 23/24 city and 29/30 highway in the summer.

A couple small downfalls to include:

- Black is hard to keep clean (not the car's fault)

- It makes a few little creeks and peep noises

General Comments:

I will admit that I was against buying an Avenger, but that was based off of bad info. I drove a 2.4 liter SXT model & truly was impressed; very tight suspension, but not overly tight. Handles very good, and was impressed with the engine & the overhauled interior.

I also drove a SE version with the new 3.6 Pentastar engine. It didn't have all of the extras the other one had, but the car was just as good, but I was just expecting more from the V6. Not saying it was bad, just thought there would be more power feel etc, and it just didn't seem that much better to lose all of the extras the SXT has.

So I bought the SXT with the 2.4 liter four cylinder, & have not been let down yet. The car brand has a bad name, & now I know it's for no good reason. There are some issues when Chrysler brought back the brand, but not catastrophic issues, like engines blowing up or transmissions. Now at the 2013 model year, I feel they have come a long way.

Is the car totally perfect? No, but no car is. But to give this model car the bad rap I see all the time, in so called professional reviews, is just grossly biased, and people just need to go drive one at a dealership, & I don't mean a base model, I mean an SXT at least, to see that the cars are really nice.

I will say the car has a bad blind spot, but it's bearable if you are a careful driver.

Overall I believe it is a very good car, and people just need to get out there and try one out. Some of the specs of my car are the 2.4 liter inline 4 cylinder, the new 6 speed auto with auto stick feature, 6 speaker satellite, CD, MP3 AM/FM radio, & it has all the cool LED lights inside & outside.
