2013 Dodge Avenger SE Blacktop 2.4L 4 cylinder
Great car. Like the simplicity of it and the sharp aesthetics the Blacktop package gives
Nothing has gone wrong with the car. Just general maintenance items have been replaced.
I quite like the Blacktop Avenger. The Blacktop is a package added on the normal Avenger that, put simply, turns the entire car black. I find it an under-rated "budget" car. I like the older, simplified styling cues and the ease to drive.
I have owned the car since Dec 2015 (16 months), bought used and put 21,000 km on it so far.
I have not yet had any mechanical issues. I've replaced just maintenance items. Both air and cabin filters, oil changes, wiper blades, got new winter tires for it, and I filled up one liquid under the hood as it appeared low. That is the extent of work (maintenance) I've done on this car.
The 173 hp four cylinder isn't fast, but it is enough to get the job done. The engine revs high, which makes it sound as if you are going faster than you really are. I'm happy the engine isn't too whiny. It does not have that buzzing or whining like some imports or small 4 cylinder cars have, but instead sounds quite nice.
I have tested the mileage just once. Although it might not be as good as an economy car, my test is as follows. In the winter time, with winter tires, on a 80% highway / 20% city split, I got 28 MPG. I believe in the summer at one consistent highway speed, it could produce 32 MPG. Those are real world tests, not EPA ratings.
The downfalls, although I find small, include:
- Black is hard to keep clean (not the car's fault at all).
- Fuel economy is a tad low compared to other mid-size cars.
That is all!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
