1978 Dodge D150 Base 3.7

Summary:

Economical, best truck I have had without the big monthly truck payments

Faults:

This truck comes with a short bed, got the 225 slant six 2 barrel carburetor, with automatic transmission. Plenty of power.

Why did Dodge stop making this model(?); it's very easy to work on everything. Lots of space in the engine compartment.

Recently my gas gauge quit working, but I will try the wrecking yards to see if they have the fuel sending units. Water leaks coming from the cab cowl; easy fixes I hope. Thank you.

General Comments:

It's an old truck and she never fails to start every time. Simple setups, easy to work on if you're mechanically inclined.

1978 Dodge D150 Powerwagon 318 V8

Summary:

A high powered mud loving truck

Faults:

A lot has gone wrong. First it needed new plugs and wires, then it needed a new carburetor and master brake cylinder, and all new brakes.

Then it needed a new exhaust a new windsheild and also a rear main replaced and a new radiator.

It still leaks transmission fluid if you let it sit for a while. I put new tires on it and that was about it.

A lot has gone wrong, but I only paid $300 for it anyways.

General Comments:

Even though I have had a lot of problems with it, its the best truck ever.

Very powerful truck goes through mud like a hot knife and butter.

Very comfortable for me, 6,3 300lbs.

Easy car to work on a good learner car.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I myself have own a 1972'1973/1976,1977,1978 dodge powerwagons. I still have every truck here in my yard running strong. My point is you must of beat your truck up good. Your list of parts is hard to believe , I have 700,000 miles on my 1973 truck and my list is half your size. My son is driving it to highschool here in 7 days . Thier awesome trucks if you take the time and service them when it's needed . I collect them and enjoy the fun they have brought my family over the years.

I have my father's old 1978 D150, 318 4 speed, 2.74 axle, limited slip, two wheel drive heavy half, with oversize clutch and brakes. It has been a work horse of a truck for hauling heavy and towing. It starts in the coldest of Nebraska winters.

My wife wants me to part with it, but it handles well, pulls like crazy, and keeps producing hours of useful work for us.

It is easy to work on. One can actually reach everything under the hood. Can't say enough good about it. I've had it on full synthetics. The 4 speed shifts real easy on the coldest of days.

On the open road -- no better than 17 mpg -- around the yard and pasture, probably 9-10mpg is the best as I can figure.

License time is real fun --- taxes $9.00 and liability insurance only about $16 month -- heck of a lot cheaper than our 2000 mini-van!
