1993 Dodge Daytona IROC 3.0 V6

Summary:

Reliable and fast for the money

Faults:

Electrical problems with dash (lights & gauges) within 1 year.

Driver door too heavy for frame; sags over time until door can't be opened without bending front quarter panel.

General Comments:

Very fast and nimble for the money. I beat a Mustang GT and a 300ZX in this stock/unmodified car.

Most comfortable car I've ever owned (I've owned 30+ cars). Driver seat superior for long distance driving. Plenty of room for tall person or long legs.

Doors with electric locks and windows are too heavy for the frame. They eventually sag and rub against front quarter panel (driver-side only on my car). Had this fixed twice since purchased new in 1993.

When you first drive it, you feel like you're driving in a pit with greater-than-average blind spots, but drive it a week and you won't feel that way any more.

Highly reliable in HOT Texas heat and COLD Colorado snows. Never a problem getting her started, and she handles great in snow and rain.

I've had a lot of trouble finding original parts when needed, not to mention mechanics who know what they're doing on this model.

Paint on hood started to bubble off the primer at about 7 years of age. Still have original paint job with no rust, but paint flaked down to the primer on hood and roof.

Purchased Z-rated tires for grab and speed, but later started buying cheap-o harder tires that lasted longer. Comfortable, responsive drive either way.

I recommend the car, and I'd buy one again in a heartbeat.

1993 Dodge Daytona ES 3.0 V6

Summary:

The best sporty car I've ever owned, I just would have preferredthe turbo

Faults:

The EGR solenoid stopped functioning before I purchased the vehicle.

Heater bypass hose ruptured at ~ 132000.

It also has suffered from various electrical gremlins, such as the tachometer displaying random readings intermittently, and the power window switch not working intermittently.

General Comments:

This is the first car I've owned that actually feels more stable at 120mph than at 60.

Handling is so nimble, you practically don't have to slow down for corners.

Had to replace a lot of hoses.

Large scratch in window from worn out pads.

Windshield fluid will not come out, even though it is full.

Delay setting on wipers don't work.

Defogger works when it wants to.

Won't go above 60 mph.

General Comments:

I've taken this car to 4 different places and nobody can fix it!

I have a 1993 Daytona. I bought it with 143000 miles on it. I paid 500 dollars for it. My cousin beat the car to death before I got it. Currently I have 165000 miles on the car without any major repairs and I would take that car to California and back if I needed to. There were always some problems with the electrical on the mid 90's Mopars and the body control module is what is keeping your car from operating properly. I have the same problem with mine. But as far as the "won't go over 60" part there is something extremely wrong with that car. My Daytona will do every bit of 125mph. I love my car it has it's problems, but I don't want to get rid of it. It is the most reliable car that I have ever had.

1993 Dodge Daytona ES 3.0

Summary:

A total sleeper

Faults:

I had to change the tires and the performance struts and shocks on the car when I first bought it... $600.

The transmission had fallen out from underneath the car while doing 70 m.p.h. and it did nothing to the car except for the obvious... the bad tranny was removed and a performance Jasper transmission made by Mitsubishi was put in...$2000.

The radiator and the thermostat went bad... $200.

General Comments:

What a great car, fun to drive and reliable. I paid $4500 for it and have got my $4500 out of it and more!! All Honda imports beware, there is a bigger dog in town.

1993 Dodge Daytona STD 2.5L 4 Cylinder

Summary:

An enjoyable experience that most car owners never have the satisfaction of having

Faults:

The transmission (3 speed) dropped two months after I got the car. It was replaced under warranty and promptly dropped again. The 3rd transmission has served me well (almost 100K) and I attribute the previous failures to owner neglect and mechanic stupidity.

The A/C died last summer and I'm told that the compressor has a bad clutch. I've been hampered by the $700 I'm told that will set me back. Oh well.

General Comments:

The car has served me well through 4 New England winters. It's never left me stranded and has been more than adequate in gas mileage (between 25-30mpg). I'm very pleased and I'll be sorry to have to let it go.
