2000 Dodge Durango SLT 4X4 4.7L

Summary:

Best vehicle I've ever owned

Faults:

It needed a tie rod and new heater core.

The heater core was fairly expensive, since the whole dash must be removed.

Overall, not a repair hog.

General Comments:

I love this truck! I would own another in a heartbeat. It is my favorite vehicle that I have ever owned.

Reliable. Powerful. Comfortable. Would take it anywhere.

2000 Dodge Durango SLT 5.9 V8

Summary:

A nice looking truck with good power, but rides rough and has suspension problems

Faults:

Rear end went out immediately after purchase, but was fixed under warranty.

Tie rod ends replaced.

Transmission went out and needed replacement.

Uneven wear on tires, and no solution in sight.

Harsh suspension and rides rough.

Noisy truck with wind and road noise.

General Comments:

My Durango is pretty truck with a nice paint job, and I am proud to drive it.

I like the Dodge "big truck" style, and it is a good looking truck.

The interior is well designed and has comfortable features on the inside. However, the transmission has been giving me problems even after replacement.

The truck rides so rough that it isn't a good passenger vehicle, especially for riders in the back seat and third seat area.

I've had trouble keeping tires from prematurely wearing out, and I suspect suspension problems somewhere. This is even after replacing ball joints, heavier grade of shocks, and sway bar attachment hardware. I also replaced the tires.

2000 Dodge Durango SLT 5.2

Summary:

I got my money out of this baby

Faults:

When I first year got the car, it started to rev up and down while on the road; back and forth to the dealer, could not find nothing. Finally I changed plugs. Stayed with Champion, the truck plugs will give you more power. The regular plugs save gas.

Around 80,000, the ABS light came on and it was hard to go to second gear, changed the sensor on the diff, located on the top, hard to get your hand in there, and hard to pop out. It took time, but I saved 300.

First year power steering fluid gone, no leaks, just gone. I believe it came from the factory like that.

General Comments:

I got jack on the price, but I put 260,000 miles on it after I bought it with 5 miles on it. Still riding 10 years later.

Today is 01/04/2010; let me tell you this, I only used 93 octane, the price was 99 cents a gallon in 1999, and now she won't run on anything else ;) When I crank her, it sounds like the first day I bought her.

2000 Dodge Durango SLT 5.9

Summary:

Wish I had 10 more just like it

Faults:

I have replaced tires about every 65,000 miles.

Replaced the power steering pump at 125,000 miles. The shaft broke in a hard turn four wheeling.

I put new brakes pads, rotors and brakes shoes on at 145,000 miles. The original still had 50% or better, and I pull a trailer with 5,000 to 10,000 pounds on it, and no trailer brakes.

Replaced the cap, rotor, plugs and wires at 145,000 also. These were all still original too.

The only real complaint I have had is with the power lock actuators. The plastic wears out and they are very noisy.

General Comments:

This this has been driven hard and put away wet. I have driven this in mud and snow. It has been off the ground more than once, and not just a few inches, but a few feet.

This would have looked at home on the front of a four wheeling magazine.

I have pulled trailers full of scrap iron, lumber, fire wood and farm equipment, and it has always treated me right.

All car manufacturers have vehicles that do not perform up to expectations, and all have vehicles that are money pits. I have driven Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Audi and a few others I can't remember, and can complain about small things about every one of them.
