V8 is very torquey and felt smoother than Hemi.
Only one gallon per mile less than Honda Element!
Power, ride, quiet, and handling much better than the Pilot I test drove.
Much more refined than Pilot, Tahoe, and Sequoia (my second choice)

I'm 40 years young and have had the privilege of owning many great vehicles. Past vehicles include luxuries, compacts, trucks, and muscle cars to name a few. I can honestly say this 2004 Dodge Durango Limited with the Hemi is the most awesome vehicle I have ever owned! Acceleration, handling, and comfort is absolutely superb. I should also mention the factory 368 watt Infinity stereo system that is not for the driver with the weak heart. There is no comparison to the rough riding poor performance 99 Durango I recently sold.

Maybe it's just our truck, but this purchase was a mistake that we sorely regret.
Have had the front control module replaced twice. Once after 6 days of owning the truck, and then again at 20,000 miles.
Have had the driver's seat belt cover replaced 5 times since it keeps breaking.
Wouldn't go more than 25 mph 1 month after we had it. Had to have fuel injectors replaced.
There were seriously loud crunching noises coming from the front end. Had to have the whole front suspension totally replaced... at 22000 miles... and it's still making grinding crunching noises. They're calling in the corporate technicians now since they don't know what else it could be.
Very roomy inside and great dealer service.
I love the look and feel of this beautiful machine, but the lack of reliability outweighs everything. We have been stranded on more than one occasion and it seems like the truck is always in the shop. Dodge only offers a base rental when the truck is being fixed so we are stuck with the bill for upgraded cars since can't all fit in small car. A lot of hassle for a brand new truck. We actually had to buy a used car since our new truck is so unreliable!
Buying the new Dodge Durango SLT was a huge mistake for us. It is one trip away from implementing the lemon law. Dodge should be embarrassed of all the problems we have encountered.

I bought my 2003 Durango SLT 4.7 V8 4WD new and I have to say this is the best vehicle I ever owned.
As of now I have 28,400 miles on it, and nothing has gone wrong outside the normal stuff like tires and a couple of recalls.
This will probably be the last new car I ever buy. I am more than satisfied with its looks, durability and dependability. Chrysler did a good service making this SUV. If they could only put as much pride in all their vehicles as they did in this one.
Here it is January 10th 2008 and no complaints about this vehicle. Mileage is 28,400 miles.
2004 Durango was a new body style, therefore different problems/issues that are unrelated to earlier models.
We purchased a new 2004 Dodge Durango and have had terrible experiences with it.
We have maintained it as per the owners manual and drive it as a family vehicle, but still have a very expensive paperweight.
We have had to replace the engine, the oil pump, the water pump, the radiator, thermostat, and I could go on and on. We also have electrical problems such as the windshield wipers stopping or going on randomly.
Currently we have to replace the transfer case, which is the last straw. Dodge has been less than helpful even though we have all of our service records and purchased the extended warranty.
Unfortunately this is the second new Dodge vehicle we have had trouble with. We purchased the Durango when we had a Dodge Intrepid, also purchased new, that had the transmission fail at 37k. Both vehicles were maintained by a local Dodge dealer.
Unfortunately, when we are now shopping for a new vehicle, we will not even consider another Dodge.

We have had two Dodge Durango's so far, and we have never once had one problem of any kind in either of the vehicles. They've always been excellent in every way and we kept pristine care of each one. They are an excellent vehicle...it's just unfortunate that you had a problem. They say there's a lemon in every bunch, so you must have gotten stuck with the lemon. Sorry you had problems, but it's the most reliable transportation on the market.
