2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport 3.3L V6

Summary:

Much better than previous years and price is still within anyone's budget

Faults:

The battery failed at 70,000 miles and had to be replaced at a cost of $63.00 from a local auto parts store.

General Comments:

The 3.3 liter V6 is good enough for passing on uphill grades and returns a respectable 23 miles per gallon on the highway and 18 miles per gallon with city driving. Not bad considering I'm a lead foot. The interior is quiet, but I've noticed tire noise gets a little pronounced at highway speeds.

However, the four speed automatic transmission has been very dependable and still continues to shift smoothly, even with 92,000 miles on the odometer. If I'm not mistaken, Chrysler installed a newly designed transmission on all 2001 and newer models. Because as most Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth minivan owners know, the biggest fear is having your transmission "take a crap".

Do you work for Chrysler?

2001 Dodge Grand Caravan ES 3.8

Summary:

The decline of the minivan

Faults:

Automatic sliding door problems.

Power steering rack replacement.

Replaced struts.

Clock runs slow.

Driver's seat heater replaced.

Dash venting for passenger is erratic.

Auto rear hatch sometimes doesn't work.

General Comments:

Having owned 6 dodge minivans in the last 15 years, I have proverbially seen it all with this model. The best year as far as quality control and reliable, low/no maintenance was 1996 with a 3.2 liter engine. Then I began to see more and more quality control problems which miraculously happened right after that 3 yr/36k mile warranty ran out. Luckily, most of the cited problems above were under warranty.

Highway cruising is very enjoyable as the 3.8 engine is strong in any of its 4 gears.

Very reliable transmission.

I give this post two thumbs down. Very good post. However 6 or 7 problems with this vehicle within 3yr/36 mo and several right after. The owner has owned several previous Dodges and has seen all the problems with this one. However the post gave him a happy review. For that I give this post a negative review.
