1995 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.3 L

Summary:

A great comfortable sedan with enough power, reliability and comfort to suit almost everyone's needs

Faults:

I had to have the front rotors replaced because of a "grinding" sound.

I had to have my A/C recharged last summer, but no leaks were found.

The transmission cooling lines (2) went up on me and had to be replaced.

General Comments:

Comfortable car to ride for long haul travelling.

It's been a good car to me and I recommend it to others.

It has great handling (especially with the added "Traction Control") in all weather types. Snow, rain and on nice sunny days.

Great gas mileage: 23-28 miles per gallon average, 32 on my trip to Florida on Spring Break.

1995 Dodge Intrepid Base 3.3L

Summary:

This is a lot of car for the money, many standard features

Faults:

A/C refrigerant system failed during the 2nd year of ownership. Evaporator and condenser were replaced by the dealer under warranty.

Front brake rotors have been replaced twice by the dealer, due to grinding noise during braking.

The right front stabilizer link wore out, causing a heavy clicking noise.

The paint on the body side molding is failing, and the clear coat finish on the black plastic exterior "C" pillar covers is cracking off.

General Comments:

This car has been very reliable during the 70,000 miles driven so far.

Gas mileage has been between 23-28 MPH.

No squeaks or rattles, very solid.

Factory Michelin tires lasted 65,000 miles.

Chrysler has recognized a problem with their A/C evaporators (early failure) used on the LH platform and has extended the warranty to 7 years/70,000 miles. The repairs made by Chrysler to my A/C system (including replacing the condenser due to stone damage) cost me nothing.

Just a note to anyone experiencing excessive front brake noise. The factory front brake rotors are of poor quality. The castings are full of voids. I found this out after having a pair surfaced. I bought a set of aftermarket rotors and have had no front brake problems since.

1995 Dodge Intrepid 3.2

Summary:

Good car - I love my Dodge Intrepid

Faults:

Have had the transmission 'float' between gears. One dealer had it three times and could not fix it. Finally drove it back to the original dealer - fixed in an hour with the proper service bulletin.

Finally, the transmission went at 61,000 and with some bullying and and a threat to picket the dealer on each and every Saturday, got Dodge to pay for parts and I did labor. Only had a 3yr/36,000 mile warranty.

General Comments:

Threatening to picket on the right of way and saying - Talk to me before you buy a car here - brings results from the dealer to go to bat for the consumer.

I love my Intrepid - comfy, good mileage, low maintenance - I love to drive it.

1995 Dodge Intrepid Standard 3.3

Summary:

Great car, poor reliability

Faults:

Power steering pump has been replaced 2 times for leaks so far and it looks like it is leaking again.

Air conditioning has lost refrigerant twice in the past 1.5 years and the dealer has not been able to find the leak.

The oil dip stick tube had to be replaced because of a leak.

The front end has had a creak almost since new and the dealer blamed it on the plastic parts.

The body sheet metal seems very thin and subject to dings from slight bumps.

General Comments:

I love the car but am very disappointed in the reliability. Fortunately I have an extended warranty so it hasn't cost a great deal.

It rides great and I get 31MPG on trips at high speed.

My biggest dilemma is... should I get a new one?

1995 Dodge Intrepid Standard 3.3

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this car after 60k. The headlights are very weak and have been corrected in 98 models.

The front seats are somewhat uncomfortable on trips in excess of 2 hours. The room is great for my wife as she is a real estate broker.

General Comments:

Very quiet at 60-75 mph.

Large interior.

You must add driving lights as the original headlights are actually unsafe.
