1995 Dodge Neon four door

Summary:

A paint chipped, piece of crap

Faults:

The paint started chipping off after two months.

Trunk smells like mildew, rain leaks through.

Brakes have squeaked since day one.

Had to replace sensor and a motor $600.

Gouges do not work most of the time, unless you hit a big bump.

General Comments:

This car is built very cheaply.

It is a waste of your money.

Too many repairs needed to frequently.

Whoever made these cars should go ahead and retire.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

Just bought a 95 neon for stepdaughter. my brother in law is a mechanic so before we got it he put on a new head {taken off another junk neon). and then he replaced about 500 dollars worth of parts. Now though I have to admit it does seem to run quite well. The paint is chipping and rusting above the headlights?Oh well its her first car.

Summary:

Cheap to buy, but expensive to keep

Faults:

The head gasket went at 100k, fixed and is leaking again. The A/C quit at the second year of owning it. Radio and cassette failed in third year of ownership. All the little irritations are numerous; paint peeling, windows whistle, interior light works occasionally, intermittent wipers work unintermittently, and the brakes squeal even when they're brand spanking new.

General Comments:

This car is cheap and therefore disintergrates fast.

When I first bought it, there were many good qualities like fuel efficiency, the price and it is quite peppy for a 4 banger.

However the faults substantially outweigh any good points about this car.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

Well, lets have a look at what you said. You are complaining about a car that cost no more than $10,000 new (if that). You say little things like whistling windows, faulty dome light, and other issues are of annoyance. You bought a 1995 Neon, during a time when Dodge was not known for their reputation (which they have gotten much much better). To top it off, it was used. 23,000 miles to be exact. You got it to 175,000. THAT'S DAMN GOOD! You should be considering yourself lucky! 150,000++ miles back then was still new. Plus like I mentioned above, Daimler Chrysler was not known for their reputation in a reliable car back then. Why are you complaining about such a small, cheap car that's not meant to be like a Mercury Grand Marquis???

I don't know why you're accusing me of complaining. I'm explaining exactly like it is. I'm reviewing my car. Should I mention that the head gasket blew or keep that to myself because I didn't pay 20 grand for my car. Should I not mention that that the windows whistle because it was the first year for the neon. Lighten up there, angry man.

Boy oh boy! I bought a used neon (95) with a relatively new (25,000) engine so I also thought it was a great deal for 400.00. I put in new since then a starter, wires coil pack, fuel pump, plug, axle, oil cam, etc. I still think after spending the additional money, that it would be worth it if only it would start. If you or anyone out here could give me a hint, that would be great. I want my son to have this car for college next year and altogether I've invested about 1,500.00 so what's another couple of hundred. Except for the hideous roof from peeling, it's virtually a new car. I can only say that I don't hear the primer pump operate when I try. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, mike

I have a 1995 dodge neon, when I bought it, it had 112000 on it, and heres what I've done to it all in a 9 day period.

New starter, new brakes and rotors, new alternator, new battery, new computer, and new motor and transmission mounts, I spend over $1000 in that short period because the damn thing just kept breaking down! I want a honda.
