1999 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT V8 360

Summary:

A great truck, but with several consistent flaws

Faults:

Oil sensor went bad after I left dealership.

Driver's side arm rest squeaks. It started after approx. 40,000 miles.

Steering seems to always pull to the right no matter how many times I get it aligned.

Transmission sensor for Drive just went at 48k miles.

General Comments:

I love this truck. I just wish they would have remedied this transmission problems. Sad to think that they know about it and just don't care. Makes me reconsider ever buying another Dodge product.

Dodge "main-streamed" the Full sized Pick-up again with the Ram 1500 Quad Cabs years back. But now I would get a Ford 150 over the newest Rams. All the changed seemed to be cosmetic. The rear seats are still too small compared to the Ford. I believe that Dodge is relying on the "Hemi" to boost it above Ford and GM, but when you have a family rear passenger compartment size matters more.

1999 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Laramie SLT 4x4 Club Cab

Summary:

Great truck

Faults:

Just purchased this truck used in 2003.U-joints and bolts in front end had to be done by dealer before I would buy it. Other than that no problems yet.

General Comments:

Downsized from a 1500 club cab 4x4 with a 360 to one with a 318 this time. Better on gas and still has all the power you will need. Handling has improved greatly from the 1997 I owned.Started having transmission troubles with 1997 around 100,000 Mi.The new truck has an aftermarket transmission cooler which seems to help.Tows with ease and is a workhorse. New cup holders are a dream!Electric moonroof is also a nice addition.

1999 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT 5.9 CUMMINS T diesel

Summary:

If breaks were dependable a great work/play vehicle

Faults:

DRIVERS SIDE POWER SEAT MOTOR DIED AT 25000+/-. I had to go to several dealers before one would fix it under the warranty agreement.

Breaks: Under panic break conditions tend to fail completely. Not just the anti lock breaks, but the hydraulic system seems to fail for several seconds and somehow recovers with enough time to prevent impact with the person who cuts you off.

Fuel sending unit died at 9599 miles

Fuel sending unit died again at 20,500 miles.

Fuel pump died at 72,000 miles.

Fuel injector died at 81500 miles.

General Comments:

The ergonomics on this truck blew away the competition for its model year. The acceleration and mileage have also been surprisingly great with this vehicle.

The local dealership (Westoaks/ Chrysler Dodge, a 5 Star dealer), was extremely aggravating to deal with and tried tacking on every possible charge for maintenance and warranty repair work. Naturally they lost both after two strikes.

Overall with the exception of the warranty and dealership issues this has been a great vehicle.

1999 Dodge Ram Pickup SLT Lariame 1500 5.9 V8

Summary:

Dodge has to do something about the transmissions

Faults:

Transmission problems right away.

General Comments:

I bought the truck (as-is) on Saturday

, drove it about 100 miles and transmission starts slipping going from

2nd to 3rd. I heard about these transmissions and wish I would have listened to them. Dodge should have a recall or honor fixing them. Payed enough for the truck, sure can't afford a new or rebuilt transmission.

Well you're not the only one. Looking on the web trying to find some advice, recall info (hehe, right), I know, how bout a buyer for this truck of mine. Anybody interest. How is the Dodge stock doing these days.

I love my truck... But one day out of the BLUE my transmission decided to not accelerate, i stopped to let my sister out and when I pressed on the pedal to start moving I went no where. I put it in low 1 and drove home extremely slow. I let the truck sit for a few days and decided to try it again and it drove just fine. I have not had that problem ever since, but the transmission seems to be very confused as to what gear it is supposed to be in. I would also like to add that when I hit the slightest bump it feels like the steering is shimmying. PS my brother has the same truck and his tranny never recovered from that slipping state, and his steering feels exactly like mine. His truck is a 2001 and mine is a 1999.I just want to say that I do love my truck and when the tranny goes I will upgrade it somehow. I have only owned chevy trucks, but I am sick of changing motors due to main bearing KNOCKS on cold days. Granted I change my oil every 2000 miles. I will try my luck with dodge.
