1989 Dodge Ramcharger 360 ci

Summary:

Best SUV ever

Faults:

Had to have radiator replaced two days after I bought it, but there are no other problems at all.

General Comments:

It's a great truck; the best I have ever owned.

I wish Dodge would bring this truck back. In my opinion, it was the best SUV ever.

Sure, it gets 9 MPG, but I love this truck so much, and drive it every day to work.

9 MPG and only 190 HP?

Maybe why it's not around anymore?

9 MPG would explain why it will never return in the form that you know it.

My Ramcharger has a 34 gallon tank and it's the same fuel economy; a tank of gas will last me 1-2 weeks.

1989 Dodge Ramcharger 150 360

Summary:

Should have kept making them

Faults:

Great ride.

I've had 3 - 84, 85 and 89.

Doors and tailgate need better support.

Keeping the oil changed is the key.

I preferred the 4 speed and the 318 engine.

General Comments:

Better have a pocket full of money if you drive it a lot.

Would like to see fuel injection on all I have owned.

Outstanding SUV

1989 Dodge Ramcharger

Summary:

Tough and reliable

Faults:

Not much has gone wrong with the Ramcharger, considering it's now got 375,000Km on it. It's worn out like any vehicle would be at this point, but still the most reliable vehicle I've had.

~ Gas gauge doesn't work, and hasn't for several years.

~ Seatbelts are worn out and take a few tugs to tighten up.

~ Front lights are very dim.

~ All of the doors need to be slammed hard, and in the right place, to shut all the way.

~ Has a small oil leak.

~ Needs tranny fluid at least once a week.

~ front passenger seat is broken, flips all the way forward (the reason the windshield is broken -- the seat hit it)

~ Tends to be sluggish when you want to be speedy.

~ Takes at least 5-10 seconds to start it up, depending on how long it's been sitting. Will start right away if it's been very recently used (within a 2-3 hour period).

~ Cloth interiors attract dog hair easily.

~ Difficult to pull the car seat from back seat.

General Comments:

Can't go wrong with this unit. It's tough and reliable. I never worry about getting hit in this vehicle.

This truck has never once broken down on me, and it can go for some time without propane. Because it's on propane, it's relatively inexpensive to drive.

This is a great winter truck and can take you anywhere, on or off roads. This is probably the reason they are tough to find in decent shape -- people beat on them because the truck can handle it. They make great mudboggers.

There is a ton of space inside the truck -- so much room, and very comfortable. Lots of room for the dogs in the back.

A/C has never failed us, and the heater is amazing.

This is my second Ram Charger (first was an '84) and this one has had far less issues than the first. The first had ALL the problems listed above (right down to the broken seat -- except that one actually came unattached from the floor), but engine issues as well. Our 89 Ramcharger has never let us down. The engine is getting a bit worn out, and I'd like to replace it, but I'll never get rid of this truck. It's fun, it's tough, and it's reliable. Highly recommended if you can find one.

1989 Dodge Ramcharger 150 LE (2 wheel drive) 5.9L (360 cu in)

Summary:

The best vehicle I have ever owned

Faults:

Front brake calipers locked at less than 20,000 miles but was covered by factory warranty.

A/C compressor died at three years, around 28,000 miles.

Have found that Oxygen sensor need to be replaced every 35,000 miles or 6 to 8 years.

General Comments:

At almost 120,000 miles it still runs as well as the day it was purchased.

Only gets 12 to 14 MPG, so not very economical for daily commuting.

A pleasure to drive on highway trips, plenty of power and really comfortable, (Lots of head and leg room)
