1999 Dodge Stratus 2.4L

Summary:

It sucks.

Faults:

The brakes are horrible! I have to replace them every few months.

I have also had to replace the speed censor at about 40,000 miles.

I had to replace the head gasket at about 60,000 miles.

The power window motor stopped working.

I have a crack in the manifold, and another one somewhere else (can't remember too many repairs).

Steering wheel finish has started to come off.

General Comments:

I think the car is a piece of junk. I have done nothing but spend money on it since I bought it. The maintenance bills are more than the car note.

1999 Dodge Stratus ES 2.5

Summary:

A nice V-6 family car

Faults:

I have had my car since it was practically new and guess what no problems.

General Comments:

This is a great car. I love it.

I have heard of a lot of people having trouble with the transmissions in their cars. I can tell you I've watched a lot of these same people and they drive like idiots. No transmission will hold up to jack rabbit starts forever. It also helps if you drive slow the first couple of minutes to let not only the engine, but the engine warm up a little before full throttle. This is true not only for this car, but all cars. People don't seem realize they also need to check their transmission fluid every now and then.

I have 1997 Dodge Stratus ES with the 2.5 liter and autostick transmission with 96,000 miles and haven't had any troubles beside general maintenance. I drive close to 100 miles a day, 4 days a week and find the car very reliable! You know a car doesn't run on just gas and oil, it also needs to be maintained.

General Comments:

Seats are very comfortable for a larger person.

Fuel mileage is excellent; get 34 mpg average with combined city/highway driving.

Engine is too small and seriously underpowered, but very thrifty.

1999 Dodge Stratus SE 2.4L 4 cylinder

Summary:

A truly affordable sports sedan

General Comments:

Front seats tend to develop lint that doesn't like to be removed by vacuuming. This does not affect the seat fabric.

Suspension could be a little stiffer (like the ES model).

Excellent handling. All four tires want to stay planted.

Trunk big enough to hold a large stroller and groceries without using the back seats.

The engine is quite good. It sips fuel if you're nice to it, drinks like a Ram if you beat on it.
