1997 Eagle Talon TSi AWD 2.0 turbo

Summary:

All around great car with limitless modification potential

Faults:

Basic tune-up was needed after purchase from dealer.

Small oil leak. Oil pan and oil pump seals replaced under warranty.

Valve cover gasket replaced. Warranty.

Turbo inspected. Bearings in bad shape, but the car never showed signs of this problem. Warranty repair $116.

02 sensor replaced.

Timing belt and balance shaft belt replaced after object struck belt area. Belt covers installed (missing from dealership purchase)

Front and rear brakes replaced.

General Comments:

This car was neglected by previous owner and was possibly in an small front end accident.

This car must be maintained to be a reliable everyday driver.

i would be careful in using "engine treatments." Some are never tested to be safe on turbo cars.

Sparkplugs are another hot gimmick item. NGK or Denso plugs are BEST for your vehical. (yes, even over Splitfire)

Valve cover gasket leaks are known problems too many of the Mitsubishi line of 4-cylinder motors. This can cause spark plug wells to fill with oil and dirt causing misfires and poor overall performance.

Looking above one may see a problem car. Take into consideration this car is almost 7 years old and neglected. After the initial repairs were done the car has been super reliable even though I race it on the weekends.

Fast (used) cars are mostly problematic. Especially Talon TSi s'. You just have to keep on spending the money and loving the car! Lol.

1997 Eagle Talon ESI 2.0 DOHC Non-turbo

Summary:

For $3000, with rims and some other stuff, I guess it was a good deal

Faults:

The Driver-side window clicks when I roll it down.

The Fan Belt "Blew" out today, and the car just revved, it was all sorts of messed up.

The tie-rods snapped, and the spring shot off, and the tire went from (|) to (_), on the front of the rim, and the car slide.

General Comments:

I like the quickness, and the throttle response.

Backseats are comfortable.

The front bumper is sick!

1997 Eagle Talon ESI 2.0 DOHC

Summary:

A quick and easy going ride

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this car.

Engine light has come on, but didn't find any difference in the performance. It's probably not a big deal.

General Comments:

My Talon is very good on turns.

It's a little slow on take off, but rides like a dream once up to speed.

My Talon is quite rough on bumps, but you have to expect that with a sports suspension.

It's a very good looking car, and it gets all the people's attention you hope to get.

I had no trouble starting it up in the winter, even on mornings with -40C windchill.

All in all, this car has been everything I expected in a car, and I would buy one again.

The Check engine light can be reset at any Auto Zone for FREE!! I have had it come on once or twice it will normally go away after a few weeks I'm told it is just sensing an engine miss-fire and means nothing.

If you take the negative lead off the battery post for about 5 minutes, when you reattach it will clear out the check engine light as well. (But you'll lose all your radio stations!)

I love my talon and its runs like a dream. Its really good looking and moves up to speed really fast sick car and amazing looks, but very expensive to maintain, but worth every penny.

I currently own a 97 eagle talon ESI and I have performance parts on it, it is still very slow and sluggish it is only quick on the highway, but in a race it does not go far against a Honda or even saturn's. The fact is I still love the car and it is pretty reliable except they are know to run very hot. To stop the overheating problem it is recommended to install an oil cooler. If you have the money I highly recommend purchasing the Tsi, which is the turbo ed version.
