1995 Ford Aspire 1.3

Summary:

A low performance Easter egg

Faults:

Up until recently it's been a reliable car. Up and down the east coast twice from Fla to Maine. Numerous other long trips, but now the car hesitates like crazy, barely wants to move from a start until about 30mph then it startd running normally. Not sure what's wrong, couldn't fix it myself, anyway cause Ford haven't released the patents on any parts I would have to take it to the dealership, don't think so.

General Comments:

Would recommend not to buy a Kia, I mean Ford Aspire.

When I first bought my Aspire I thought "cool". The first thing that went wrong, was the window crank came off, then the cheap tires blew at 11,000 miles.

In the winter the interior frosted over, ignition froze, I have trouble putting it into gear, and the engine is slow.

The upside is the engine has taken a beating and come back for more.

What Engine?

1995 Ford Aspire 5 door hatchback 1.3

Summary:

110,000 hassle and repair-free miles and still going strong

Faults:

With over 110,000 miles on it so far, have had absolutely no trouble with this car, with the exception of replacing the windshield for a crack that developed at 109,000 miles.

General Comments:

See above, with the addition of: car is surprisingly roomy for such a small car. Have no trouble getting my 6"2' frame inside.

As long as the air is not on when going up a hill, the manual transmission version is a peppy little car.

Hoping to get another couple 100,000 miles on it.

1995 Ford Aspire 1.3

Summary:

Doomed from the start....

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This car is something else, that's all I can say, it has its good days and its bad ones. I bought this cause I was told it was a newer Festiva, that was a freakin LIE, Ford lies to people. This thing was no Festiva. It is a good car but the performance is nothing compared to the Festiva's. Another thing is that the hubcaps on these things are awful, I've never seen anything fade so fast into an ugly orange color. Once again Ford says there is nothing they can do, but everyone I see has faded wheels like that, looks like a Ford problem to me. I think this car would have made it if Ford had backed it more. At least Chevrolet backs its little Metro.

I bought new in 1990 a Ford Festiva, using a steep discount, then at the last minute before purchase, put the car in my wife's name so she could get the $500 first-time buyer rebate (yes, the dealer got peeved). Total price paid: $5389 + tax and I'd have to say that this car was by FAR the best auto I have ever owned (and I've owned Toyota, VW, Chevy, and Nissan). I put 166,000 miles on it over a 10 year period, sold it in 2000 for $450, and to this day regret it. I did primarily 80% highway/20% city driving. I AVERAGED 47mpg, occasionally over 50mpg, and one time while driving just 55mph the whole week, eeked out 54mpg...this may have been the best non-hybrid car ever manufactured (with respect to MPG).

1995 Ford Aspire 1.3

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This a good little car but it is way underpowered, I mean sometimes you think that the engine is doing nothing. It probably has to do with the auto tranny that it has, because another friend of mine has an 5 speed and it's quite a bit faster than mine. The Ford people are really rude when you go there for a service, they act like if you don't buy one of those land yachts you're nothing to them.

I'm not sure if I would buy another one or not because of the power of the engine, but everything else to do with the car is pretty decent so no complaints there, but I must say the prices on parts for this car are a bit much for a econo car.

1995 Ford Aspire 1.3

Faults:

Well, one of the wiper arms fell off. The back wheel warped when I went over some rail road tracks too hard. And the passenger side window exploded when just a tiny tiny pebble hit it. Nothing mechanical.

General Comments:

The car is OK, Very SLOW. But the gas mileage is good. Ford is awful, I take my car to Toyota to get it serviced now.

1995 Ford Aspire Base 1.3

Faults:

Rear bearings went out at about 55,000 miles and back wheel was warped when I went through a mud puddle. I've had to have a key made every other month for the car since it tends to bend and wants to break. No one has the blank except Ford.

General Comments:

The windows fog up real bad in this car. It won't go with the A/C on, it just seems to rev up, but it has been a great car, it's never given me any huge problems. I went to go trade and get another one a few weeks ago and the guy at Ford told me that they quit making them. He did however tell me to go to Kia, that they were suppose to be releasing a version of the Aspire this year named the Avella Si. I guess I'll have to wait on that.
