2003 Ford Crown Victoria LX Sport V8

Faults:

Had intermittent overdrive trans problems with hot days and 10 minute plus idle times. Kept slamming from O/D back down to 3rd or just stayed locked up in 3rd, would not up shift. Went through a lot with the dealer; finally had the module replaced, and this seemed to fix it. Also had the right rear wheel bearing go out; replaced it.

General Comments:

My previous car was a Volvo 240 bought it new had it for 16 years and put 300K on it. I was in both Seattle and NYC and asked the cabbies how many miles they had on their Vic's. They were all between 300-700K miles with minor problems. I decided that was the car for me.

I'm a diehard rear wheel drive fan and won't spend what the Europeans want for their rear wheel drive offerings.

This car listed for $30K and I bought it for $16.3K when it was 13 months old. You can't beat the ride, handling, and it's quick. I average 18-19 city/highway and can stretch it to 23 mpg on a cruise.

I went on-line and had the "Ford factory issued crash isolator kit" put on. It cost $250.00 but it reduces the chance of the infamous Crown Vic gas tank problem from happening to us. See your dealer, it's worth it.

I tell everyone that I drive in my living room; I've got my two leather easy chairs and the full size couch in back. It's a great car, and I'm real sorry to see it go. the LX sport kit and center console shift with the 17's really sets it off. Those, coupled with the solid silver monochromatic paint job makes it a head turner.

Should have fixed the transmission and kept driving it :(

2003 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor 4.6L

Summary:

A dream on wheels

Faults:

Faulty wiring cause many short outs.

General Comments:

This car has passed all my tests on performance and reliability. Ford knew what they were doing when this jewel came off the line. My 0 to 60 is about 7.5 seconds and can handle speeds of 142 with ease. You get all the power of a Mustang with the luxury of a stylish and bold four door cruiser. Corners like a dream with the beefed up suspension, and the rack and pinion steering only makes it better.

The only complaint I had with the car so far was an extreme short out that was causing lights to come on, horns blaring and many other little problems. For that reason I got the car at a very cheap $3,000. After blowing many fuses trying to find the problem, I finally saw smoke coming from the right front wheel well. After removing the plastic hold downs for the battery and wheel well, the wire harness was clearly corroded and many wires were fused together. I simply cut all the bad ones and spliced them back together. The car is now like brand new, no problems at all.

I could not be happier with the Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptor.

I've got one of these, same year. My only wiring problem was with the blower, only worked on high. Sprayed some PB Blaster on the connection to the thermal resistor and it works fine.

The 2003 P71 came with a limiter, not allowing the vehicle to exceed 130 mph for fear of transmission and/or rear end damage. If your P71 is exceeding this speed, just try to keep it under 130mph, or check to see which drive train you have. Good luck and be careful.

2003 Ford Crown Victoria LX Sport 4.6 V8

Faults:

None yet. still low miles on car.

General Comments:

The crown has very good acceleration, plenty of room, and it's a head turner. I get complimented on the car about once a week.Basically, the crown is in a class by itself lately. Not many other companies match the room, power, and ride... especially the rice burners.
