1994 Ford Econoline 150 5.8L V8

Summary:

A must have if you have a big family and like comfort

Faults:

When I first purchased this vehicle, the first thing that went bad was the alternator. This happened 3 times before my mechanic found that there was a short circuit. Other than that, there has been no problems at all.

General Comments:

This vehicle is very comfortable and reliable.

The suspension rides smoothly and you would hardly ever feel a bump on the road.

For a van of this height and weight, it moves rather fast and agile.

Keeps the kids quiet with the entertainment system on while on long trips.

1994 Ford Econoline E-150 351V-8

Summary:

A stylish reliable bargain

Faults:

A vacuum lever broke on the rear heater causing the heater duct to remain open at all times. This part was easy to replace and cost around $20.00.

One stud bolt connecting the air intake manifold to the engine rusted through causing coolant to leak through the bolt from the engine. This was a major concern until I found it and replaced the bolt with a new one ($1.96 at Ford) and I have never had a problem with it since!

General Comments:

I have owned this van for only 2 years, but I have put 41,000 miles on it. I fell in love with the van's good looks (I have the Chateau version) immediately.

I have been very impressed with performance from the 351 V-8. It is fast, both at start, highway passing speeds, and top speeds. The transmission shifts wonderfully and the paint and interior are beautiful.

I am impressed by a van with this many original miles yet with such reliability and power. I routinely take this van for trips of up to 2000 miles without the slightest concern and gas mileage is consistently 16 mpg.

The interior is comfortable and allows passage from front to back easily with its four captain chairs and rear bench seat. This is a great van for a family with children as it is very convenient to seat and unseat kids. The van has easy access in the middle with two swing-out side doors instead of the traditional sliding door.

I recommend this van for anyone looking for reliable, roomy, and stylish transportation.

I agree about the 6 cylinder.. It is a great engine, but it won't win a drag race with 150 horses, but it is bulletproof!

1994 Ford Econoline 150 390hp

Summary:

Comfortable when travelling

Faults:

Cruise control malfunctioned at 58,000 miles. Fuel pump quit working at 90,000 miles.

General Comments:

Replacement cost for fuel pump at a Ford dealership in Albuquerque, NM cost $988.00, which is too much.

What was done to the engine to make it 390hp? Were all 3 fuel pumps replaced for $900?

1994 Ford Econoline 5.0L V-8

Summary:

It's very comfortable van, but it does have its problems

Faults:

Some times you have to take your foot off the gas for it to upshift.

Will not downshift for hill climbing, passing or pulling onto freeway.

Sometimes, from a complete stop, it will take off in second.

Sometimes, when you put it in gear it wants to stall the motor.

General Comments:

It's a very comfortable van and has a lot of room. Ours is a conversion so it does have a little squeak on it. It also has quite a lot of pep for something that big.

The reason the dealer was rated a 3 because he ripped us off. He said he could get the transmission fixed for us and when we took it to the Ford dealer to get it fixed the transmission worked for about 20 miles, and then it started doing exactly what it did before.
