2002 Ford Expedition 4.7 Triton V8

Summary:

Overall great truck, a few quirks, but overall very good car to own

Faults:

After a year and a half, the Alternator went.

Shortly after, the front door locks won't work properly (From abuse from little kids, now resolved)

At 33,000 miles, the continental tires (almost bald) were replaced with Michelin LTX M/S tires.

At 44,300 miles, the #7 cylinder ignition coil went

At 44,800 miles, #3 Cylinder Ignition coil went

At 45,100 miles, #4 Cylinder Ignition coil went

(First 2 were replaced by Ford, we replaced the other 6 at home, since the parts only cost $6 or so) Runs great now.

Rear Climate control system is acting up, the valve that controls the upper and lower vents is thumping, soon to be fixed.

General Comments:

Great SUV car, towed a 5000lb jeep 500 miles from upper maine to upstate New York, through mountains. (Granted, the tach hit 5000rpm while going up hills, but it handled it without a complaint or problem)

Very comfortable.

Handles VERY well on the road

Good acceleration and throttle response

Bulletproof Ford Engine (apart from ignition coils, cheap and easy to replace at home)

Gas mileage is OK, but not great. (highway, city sucks)

Brakes very well

Turning Radius is FANTASTIC for such a big car

It's a Ford. Nuff said.

2002 Ford Expedition XLT 5.4 Litre

Summary:

Great family vehicle

Faults:

The paint on the roof line separated.

General Comments:

The Expedition has a lot of power for towing.

We find the vehicle to be smaller in side than the van we previously owned.

The rear seat folds up nicely giving extra cargo space, but it is very difficult to remove.

The sound system is good, but is nothing special.

The 5.4 liter engine gives lots of highway power for quick passing on two lane highways.

The wheel rims on the XLT are not very nice looking and are too expensive to replace.

Adjustable pedals are a very nice option as my wife is a small lady and this is her primary vehicle for driving.

The third row seat is heavy for one person to remove.
