1996 Ford F150 Eddie Bauer Special 4.9 300 straight six engine

Summary:

Great old truck that keeps on running..

Faults:

Ashtray broke.

Front suspension noises.

Right window doesn't work.

Air conditioning stopped working.

Smog devices on truck started cracking.

Front tires started wearing odd.

General Comments:

I have try to trade in this truck for 4 years.

But every time I have try to trade it in, they would only give me 500.00 for the trade in.

I have drove their newer truck (you name it.. I drove it...)... only to find out that it only drives slightly better than my old 96 Ford F150... even though my old Ford has front suspension noises... air conditioning has stopped working... right window not working... ashtray keeps falling out...

Last night I drove a beautiful 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT version with leather seats... heated seats... nice wheels and tires... 5.3 engine.. automatic... ext cab... (my 6 cyl was quicker on the gas... but faded as it got going/their 5.3 engine would take me past 60 mph... big time)... The Silverado was 11,000 plus tax/lic/smog/and funny fees (for the rich and poor in this country)... but I didn't see a big different in what I had vs. what they had...

The salesmen was upset that I didn't buy it... but the bottom line is this... if you have an old truck with just a few problems.. it's probably better built than some of the new/used trucks out there... don't trade it in and get very little $ for it... put a non operational on it... put it in the garage... or tarp it over and bug spray it good... (once every two weeks in the bug season)..and leave it alone and buy a new truck or a very good used truck of your dreams... but please review THE CONSUMERS REPORTS and take it to a good mechanic (charges are 40.00 to 80.00 dollars).. to see if has been in a accident... don't buy a new truck... or slightly better used truck... just because you are tired of your old truck...

I am waiting for a big sale tomorrow... but I have looked at their used trucks and some of them are in worse condition than my old 96 Ford F150... thanks.

1996 Ford F150 XLT 5.0 V8

Summary:

Amazing

Faults:

Clutch, but it wasn't a big deal.

General Comments:

Best truck I've ever seen. It runs like the day it was built.

When it dies, I'm going to rebuild the engine and have it another 300,000 miles.

1996 Ford F150 XLT 5.0L V8

Summary:

Tougher than nails- built like a work horse as a truck should be.

Faults:

New starter at 190,000ish.

New Tires/brakes at 190,000ish.

Driver door leaks a tiny bit at the top in very heavy rain.

Had to replace my alternator that shorted out due to a bad neg. connection to my battery at 219,000.

My locks went bad and for a few months had to open my passenger door by rolling down the window. When that one was fixed my driver door went bad and if it was locked, had to get in through the fixed passenger door and unlock it.

General Comments:

This truck has been through some pretty heavy duty stuff. The family that owned it before me took it to Wyoming/Montana several times and towed with it as well. I currently live over 5 hours away from home at college and it makes the drive home and back at least once a month, and we regularly drive dirt/gravel roads for the horse. It can take a good beating and keep going without a problem.

It's a brick, can't help it, and because it's so heavy can be a pain to get moving or get around a corner fast. Yet it handles great in rain, snow, and ice. In WI, we get a lot of all three.

Has had quite a few mild repairs, but with as many miles as it has, what can you expect?

Cab is SO roomy and comfortable (have bench seat that folds down). Perfect for the little country girl to haul her horse stuff in. Don't like that there is no mirror on drive side sun visor.

It drives and is built exactly like it should be- a truck.

Ford and GM make great trucks... decades ahead of the Asian competition!
