1991 Ford Probe LX 3.0 Vulcan V6

Summary:

The '91 Probe is a fun sporty little car that is a lot of fun even after 17 years

Faults:

Well, many things have gone wrong with this car, which I attribute to the fact that it was sitting in my grandfather's driveway for several years with no driving. The oil pan needed to be replaced, along with the brake lines, the exhaust was screwed up, the rear wiper sprayer needed to be cleaned out, and the automatic headlights stopped working, so they are now stuck in the up position (probably killing my gas mileage)

General Comments:

Even though there was a lot of work that needed to be done on this car, I really like it. Its quick and sporty looking, and has a Massive trunk, when the back seats are folded down all the way I am able to lay down comfortably without touching the back of the car (i am 5'8" tall)

Another feature that I like a lot, is that even though I have the automatic transmission, it has a manual mode, so I can hit a button and go into manual-clutch less transmission, a lot of fun if you ask me.

I would personally buy this car again, although, I would like to have one in a bit better condition, i.e. without rusting floorboards, and with working headlights.

1991 Ford Probe LX 3.0 V6

Summary:

One word = AWESOME

Faults:

A/C went dead.

Drivers side window regulator and switch.

Rear defroster.

Brake lines rusted.

Exhaust leak.

Auto seat belts started to stick.

Engine bearings went (due to the idiot owner before me who didn't change the oil).

General Comments:

The car is wonderful, has plenty of pep for a 1991, nice 6 cyl, beat most of my 4 cyl friends. Love almost everything about the car.

I had a 2004 Chevy Impala before, and will never go back to anything other than Ford, absolutely love Ford now.

The handling is responsive and tight, acceleration is awesome, mph is a little low, but hey it's a 1991!

Perfect for a 1st car, and will be passing this car down to my kid. 145k is on it and I've never had any major problems, other than the engine bearings, which wasn't the Probe's fault!

All I can say is I'm sad they discontinued them, and LONG LIVE THE PROBE!!!

I wonder if you bought my old Probe, I never had the oil changed in it. It was nothing but trouble for me, always overheating... finally the radiator blew... glad to be rid of it.

I have a 3.0 LX Probe manual that has never gave me any problems either, and it is fast when I want to go fast in it too.

So you're complaining that a car didn't work after admitting that you never took care of it?

1991 Ford Probe GL 2.2

Summary:

Sporty and reliable one-person car

Faults:

Radiator replaced at 105,000 miles. Common repair; Ford's plastic and metal contraption fails at the junction of the two materials.

Transmission slips here and there; sometimes "forgets" to down-shift properly.

Rear lift struts failed somewhere before 78,000 miles.

Paint faded very early in the life of the car, from what I've been told.

AC has been dead for years due to a leak somewhere in the line - I don't use AC much and so it remains unrepaired.

New exhaust system after the old one met a tall rock it didn't like.

General Comments:

I've driven some Ford lemons and as a result, the Probe is a pleasant surprise. It starts and runs every time I need it to. It handles very well and after eight years, I know exactly what it will do when I turn the wheel.

Engine power won't win you any drag races, but it gets the car up and over steep hills with little difficulty.

The hatchback is very handy for moving large items like furniture, bicycles, and lumber. This is not really a car for more than two people, though - those back seats are too small and the roof too low to be comfortable.

I recently (June 2006) drove this car from Denver to Los Angeles and back (2400 miles) with no problems. It managed a respectable 31 MPG along the way.
