1999 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0

Summary:

I love my ranger!

Faults:

I tore up the drive shaft. It was a stupid mistake on my part.

I ran off the road one night in the pouring rain, went into a ditch at 60mph and blew both the passenger tires off the rims. other than that the truck is great.

General Comments:

I pulled a full size Chevy out of the mud, i hauled a 2000 pond cutter and a printing press with ease. I have also had this truck air bourne and nothing break. After all the hell I have put this truck threw it still runs great, i couldn't be more pleased.

1999 Ford Ranger Base 2.5 4 cylinder. gas

Summary:

I am pleased with this truck, just hope I can keep it going for another 520,000 miles

Faults:

The dome light started staying on at about 50,000 miles. I finally lubricated the switch in the door and it stopped.

Windshield wipers come on from time to time. I haven't repaired them yet.

Fan clutch failed at 150,000 miles.

Timing belt broke at 220,000 miles.

Transmission pilot shaft bearing failed at 280,000 miles.

Muffler heat shield came loose at 180,000 miles.

The dash lights burned out at 250,000 miles.

Fuel pump failed at 450,000 miles.

The hydraulic throw out bearing is currently leaking. Have not fixed it yet. I am adding fluid regularly until I have time to take the truck off the road to repair it.

General Comments:

I drive approx. 3500 miles a week delivering mail. I believe this vehicle has been very reliable. In four years I have had 2 failures that caused the mail to be late. The timing belt and the fuel pump. I replaced the spark plugs at 430,000 miles. I believe that they are very difficult to change. This is the base 2 wheel drive unit with air conditioning.

Whoa! That's a lot of mileage. Those Rangers really sound like they hold up pretty well...

I have the same truck you have, a '99 Ranger with 2.5 motor and manual tranny. I only have 41,000 on mine, but have had not so much as a flat tire or blown light. I know quite a few people who have put 300,000 or more miles on their Rangers. I have put over 200,000 on a 1990 model with the 2.3 motor and manual tranny. Those rangers will last for a long time. As long as you keep the oil changed regularly they'll run forever, well almost.

1999 Ford Ranger XLT 2.5

Summary:

A Dependable Truck That you can Afford

Faults:

The only thing that has gone wrong with the truck is a break light bulb blew at about 25,000 miles.

My power steering pump wines a little, but no big deal.

General Comments:

This truck has been very dependable is hasn't got as many miles on it as my old Ford Ranger, so when it gets 220,000 miles on it like my old ranger with as little problems I'll be-able to say just a normal Ford.

This truck does handle better than my 90 ranger, and the brake system is better.

1999 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 liter V6

Summary:

A very tough reliable truck

Faults:

Windshield wipers wouldn't shut off when I first bought the truck. Turned out to be a recall.

Recalled Firestone tires.

Started to lose antifreeze at 20000 miles. Turned out to be a bad radiator.

Clanking noise during acceleration. The dealer greased the spline in the transfer case and it solved the problem.

Had to replace a thermostat.

CV boot broke and caused CV joint to gould up. This happened due to lack of maintenance on my part.

General Comments:

This truck is very tough. I have hauled many loads over 1/2 ton and the truck handled them beautifully.

Rides very smooth.

The acceleration is not bad. It will pick up and go when you need it to.

The Gas mileage is rough. Especially when you are a poor college student.

Very dependable and reliable.

4WD works great. The automatic hubs don't always unlock though.
