Faults:

3rd clutch at 144k miles.

Needed both radiator hoses replaced.

Needed cam shims adjusted.

Needed spark plugs.

Needed spark plug wires.

Needed front wheel bearings.

Needed front and rear brakes (pads and rotors plus 2 calipers)

Needed parking brake adjusted.

Needed 2 front hood struts.

Needed struts/shocks/springs.

Needed water pump.

Needed temp sender.

Needed thermostat.

Needed timing belt.

Needed cam sensor.

Needed crank sensor.

Needed subframe bolt updates.

Needed front and rear motor mounts.

Needed one tie rod.

All of this was done between 144k and 150k miles.

General Comments:

It's fast, it's a sleeper, it handles decently enough. It has a large trunk and fits 4 adults with a reasonable amount of room.

HOWEVER --- it's a Taurus, they are ALL getting old and beat up, mine needed LOTS AND LOTS of work to be a somewhat reliable driver. It has only left me literally stranded on one or two occasions.

Faults:

Power door lock on passenger side froze and door couldn't lock at 110,000Km's.

Replaced Power window motor. $25 a wreckers.

Front struts replaced at 120,000km's. another $100 at shop.

Front Transmission line rusted through at 200,000kms thus blowing the transmission shortly after ending this cars life. R.I.P. Taurus!

General Comments:

Well my family owned this car for 10 years. It was handed to my sister and then handed to me with about 185,000km on it. She got in five accidents and that's when the car started to rust really badly, but I didn't care it still ran like new!!! it had more body fill than metal after this point.

Its not powerful at all, but got really good gas mileage. Interior was very comfortable I drove to Florida from Toronto in this beast and it felt like I was driving an 80's Cadillac.

I would have replaced the tranny for $300 but I got a Ford Escort for super cheap. that is also a good car too.

Faults:

Heater core went out around 80,000 miles, and mechanic cracked the dash replacing it.

Alternator went out around 100,000 miles.

Rear strut mounts failed multiple times, resulting in loud chattering and knocking noises on the road.

Front wheel bearings went out around 130,000 miles, rear bearing around 190,000 miles.

Transmission failed at 198,000 miles.

General Comments:

This car was very modern in its day. Performance was more than adequate, the ergonomics were excellent, and the handling was very good for a family car. The steering feel was fantastic, despite Ford's power steering problems. Seats were very comfortable in front and back. This car only left me stranded a couple of times in 150,000 miles of dependable service. The transmission fluid was never changed, which is surely at least partially to blame for the tranny going out.

One of the cylinders lost compression

Replaced numerous spark plugs, wires, etc.

Constant stall outs when she stopped momentarily, (from the cylinder not fireing)

General Comments:

I bought this car for 350 dollars I expected problems, but I also expected her to last longer then 3 months, one of my sparkplus literally exploded inside the engine, I've never heard of anything like that before... nor did the mechanic, she ran terrible the only good thing about this car was the interior which was amazingly well kept other than that, she was terrible.

Faults:

To be totally honest the only thing that's been wrong since I owned it. The headliner is starting to pull loose by back window. Throttle positioning sensor is messing up right now.

General Comments:

The car drives nicely the only good acceleration point is between 35 to 65 mph and it's not that great. It purrs like a kitten and looks nice the ground kits sets it off nicely. It also has 5 star American Racing wheels. Also I added a rear spoiler off a 1989 Mustang L X (I shaved were the back light once was). I upgraded the sound system to 2 J L Audio 10's with a 300 Watt Boss amp with a Pioneer CD player to provide music. I love driving my Taurus.
