1997 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 V6

Summary:

Don't dis' the Taurus

Faults:

There was some kind of dead switch that was cutting off the power to the windows, the radio, and also the power steering. I had that switch replaced. The car had 183K at the time.

The transmission died at 189K, definitely not worth fixing.

General Comments:

My best friend gave me this car for free, it had about 181K at the time. I put 8,000 miles on it in less than six months, and then the trans busted.

The Taurus is a very comfortable, roomy car. I couldn't believe the way it drove with so many miles on it, you never would have known. The base 3.0 V6 engine is decent, its not thrilling, but it does the job well. I hear people say bad things about Fords all the time, but I guess they don't know how to take care of a car. The Taurus is a great car, the only reason I would not buy another one is because I've already had 3 Fords, and I would like to try something different this time.

1997 Ford Taurus

Summary:

It's a good car

Faults:

When opening the doors, the door handles won't spring back, they stay up and I have to push them down so that when I close the doors they latch, otherwise when turning the corner to door will fly open? Can anyone suggest something to me? or has anyone experienced this problem before?

General Comments:

I don't really have any other issues with this car. It looks good and drives very well.

1997 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 Vulcan

Summary:

Very Good Car

Faults:

Tune Up and Cam Sensor at 100,000

O2 Sensor 145,000

Fuel Pump 150,000

Other than that normal wear and tear items, serpetine belt, tires and oil changes and transmissions services.

General Comments:

My Taurus has been very good to me. I bought it used it was a prior rental and had about 20,000 miles on. I have changed the oil regularly between 3,000 and 5,000 miles. I serviced the transmissions at 50,000 miles and 100,000 miles and it probably needs it again. At 100,000 miles I tuned it up. At that time the cam sensor needed replaced. I am still driving it today and it runs like a top and if I had to I would drive it across the country. The fuel pump went out recently and I went to the dealer and bought a replacement approximately $400.00 but I heard that the dealer fuel pump is much better than after market ones and thus, I spent the money on it. Early on the dome light stayed on, but I had it fixed no parts to replace. It has been a really good car and I plan on driving it another couple years.

This was my post. I gave my old Taurus to my nephew and bought a new Fusion. Prior to giving my Taurus to my nephew, I put new spark plugs and wires on it and replaced the front rotors and brakes. The plugs and wires had 60,000 plus miles on them and while they were not fouled they needed replaced. Putting on new rotors and brakes made a huge difference and I should have done that many months ago as the rotors were warped. Overall the car was very good to me it had 163,000 plus miles on it and I had very little problems with it. Hopefully, my nephew will get a couple years out of it and 30,000 to 40,000 more miles out of it and then it can go to the big bone yard in the sky and I won't have any seconds thoughts about it.

1997 Ford Taurus GL 3.0

Summary:

Biggest piece of junk I have ever owned

Faults:

Transmission has never worked properly.

Spent between $200-$300 in repairs about every 3 weeks for this car.

I replaced the front brakes twice a year.

The radio shuts off when I put it in reverse.

The power windows only work using the driver's controls.

The idler pulley has been changed several times.

The rear stutt mounts have been changed twice in 3 years and it still knocks.

The front coil springs snapped driving down the highway.

The transmission overdrive died.
