1999 Ford Taurus SE 3.0 V6

Summary:

Annoying Lemon

Faults:

Rear window motor only works when it chooses to.

Transmission dropped while on the interstate doing 80mph on cruise control.52,000 miles. (warranty replaced transmission)

New transmission slips and makes loud clunking noise when shifting into first and second. This started within one month of it being replaced.

Coolant reservoir cracked.

Brakes have squeaked loudly since 40,000 miles.

Brake light stays one although brakes has been checked and nothing is wrong.

Radio station display light on panel will only work if headlights are on.

At speeds above 50mph the car shakes, and also when stopping.

Random oil leaks.

Front tire blew out on interstate just after buying. We had the paper proving where the dealership had marked all tires as inspected and OK, yet we still had to come out of pocket for the new tire.

Headlights will become dim for a few seconds randomly when on low-beam.

Entire rear seat moves and will not lock down, padding from underneath seat shows around edges.

Rear defroster quit working.

Power source for cell phone charger/etc. quit working. Keeps blowing fuses.

Gas gauge stopped working.

Hello,

I have a 1999 Taurus myself thus far I am happy up until last month when a part called the lower drum in (sun gear). I was told it failed, it broke it was a literal break the repair shop says a manufacture flaw. That cost me $1,300 and every 30,000 I have my drums milled and replace pads I am switching to a drilled rotor to get a little live for the dollar I hope it stops shaking me to death. I wish ford would do a recall to correct this problem if not this will be my last ford.

Ps I saved the broken part and I am currently reporting it to a rep. will see what happens.

The sun gear is part of the transmission and has nothing to do with the rear drum brakes or pads. If your car shakes during braking after being repaired, either use better quality parts or find a better repair shop to fix it right.

1999 Ford Taurus SE 3.0 V6

Summary:

Ford lost some of it's most loyal customers!

Faults:

The Rack-and-Pinion busted at about 45,000 miles and needed to be replaced. The cost was about $850.00.

The brake pads and shoes needed to be replaced after 47,000 miles. Covered under warranty.

The front tires were bald and needed replacement at 50,000 miles. Another $150.00.

After about a year of living with an annoying and loud wind rush above the driver's side front door, the repairman found out the door was mis-aligned with the body, the cost to repair: $1,500.00 not covered by warranty. Never got it fixed.

Severe shaking from the steering column at 65,000 miles.

In an effort to remedy the vibration, we attempted to get a wheel alignemt, but that wasn't possible due to a busted right ball-joint at 84,500 miles. Cost:$200.00, warranty expired by now.

Yet again at another alignment, left, front strut is bent at 85,000 miles. $350.00.

Brake shoes need replacement. $100.00 covered by warranty on the previous shoes. 87,000 miles.

Sometime around 88,000 miles when it was unseasonably cold, the heater wouldn't work.

At 90,000 miles, we finally get an alignment that doesn't cure the shaking. $80.00.

Shaking traced to warped brake rotors, two of them! $360.00 at 90,500 miles.

Finally, at 91,632 miles, while ascending a steep incline, the car decided to end it's life, well, to make a long story short, it over-heated and the engine was permanently damaged. Needs replacement, but we refuse to pay

$6000.00 on a new engine, that's more that the old junker is worth! Never got it fixed.

General Comments:

It had a comfortable, if not overly bouncy ride.

The rear seat was pretty inhabitable.

The Vulcan V-6 and four-speed automatic; not a good pair.

The shifts were extremely abrupt and hard.
