2002 Ford Taurus SES 3.0

Summary:

Well rounded and toughly built, except the tranny

Faults:

Exhaust had dropped 8 inches.

Passenger front strut went bad.

Water reservoir tank busted.

General Comments:

This car was used when I bought it. I had all of the things that were wrong with it either replaced or properly fixed, and I make sure I keep up the maintenance on it as needed. Nothing has gone wrong due to my negligence or while I've had it.

It holds the road really well at high speeds, and although it registers for speeds of 120mph, its fuel shuts off at 116mph and kicks back in at 115.

I love the car, I would definitely buy another if it blows up tonight.

2002 Ford Taurus SES 3.0 Flex Fuel OHV

Summary:

Comfortable, reliable transportation that will take you where you want to go if properly maintained

Faults:

Replaced the front sway bar links at 110K.

Replaced the rear brake shoes and drums at 115K.

Replaced the cam synchronizer and sensor at 120K.

Serviced transmission with new filter and fresh fluid.

Nothing has gone wrong with the car that doesn't go wrong on any other car.

General Comments:

No major issues to date. All maintenance was kept up by the previous owner. Vehicle is very comfortable on trips and gets about 26mpg on the highway with three of us in the car and all of our luggage. Speaking of luggage, the trunk is very large and will accommodate almost anything you would need it for in day to day ownership. Engine and transmission are very tight and quiet. Rides nice and feels solid on the road.

2002 Ford Taurus SE 3.0 V6 Vulcan

Summary:

Be afraid, very afraid because you never know when this car is going to act up!

Faults:

Rear struts went after 70000 miles, one actually broke (this was $800 along with a radiator flush, oil change and a few other minor repairs)

Rear and front ends have always sat kind of low.

Had to replace cam sensor and synchronizer at 80000 mile, and now I'm replacing washer fluid line, another heavily corroded line, and the water pump. The first job was $380 and this next one will be near $400 as well.

Suspension is squeaky and a bit worn, not always the nicest ride.

Just found out that it will not pass inspection due to some of the ball joints and tie rods having some serious play in them as my mechanic said. It will cost me another $400 to fix.

General Comments:

Comfort wise, the car is fairly pleasing and the power isn't bad for a relatively small engine. However, I may never buy a Ford product again. Next time I'm going all foreign (Toyota).

2002 Ford Taurus SE 3.0 OHV Vulcan

Summary:

Awful, awful, awful

Faults:

Rear of the car sags.

Blower failed shortly after buying, fixed by hitting with a hard plastic mallet.

Steering rack began leaking around 67,000 miles, the leak quickly grew worse.

One of the power locks stopped working.

Windshield washer hose cracked and came apart where it enters the liner under the hood.

General Comments:

Working on this car is IMPOSSIBLE, do NOT buy it if you are a DIYer.

Thin tires make for an uncomfortable, and the weak springs makes the car handle like a yacht.

Good mileage, average is 25-30 mostly highway.

2002 Ford Taurus SES

Summary:

Do not ever buy a 2002 Taurus

Faults:

Rear right coil spring snapped while driving in the city. I had to replace the tire, the strut, coil spring, shock, ball-joint, and get an alignment (almost $1500 in repair)

My sway bar end links have snapped off 3 times since owning the car a year ago. (right side twice, left side once)

General Comments:

I will never buy another ford ever again, after dealing with this poorly designed car and absolutely ZERO help from the dealer or Ford itself.

Sorry, but you are dead wrong. I have an 02 Taurus and I love it.

You (or your mechanic) installed the sway bar links upside-down. I am also thinking that you got hosed on the rear coil spring and strut repair.

"Sorry, but you are dead wrong. I have an 02 Taurus and I love it."

Oh so just because of you we should all go out and buy an '02 Taurus? Just one customer doesn't make a vehicle good or bad.
