1991 Ford Tempo GL 2.3 16v

Summary:

Solid transportation investment

Faults:

This has been a great car and an excellent investment, never left stranded by it even after it was struck in the front corner by a full size jeep!

General Comments:

Never a problem with the car other than a CV joint replacement and normal wear parts (tires, brakes, tune up) until it was hit on the front corner by a full size jeep Cherokee which twisted the frame. My power and performance with this car was out of this world, drives much like it has a large V6 under the hood! fuel economy was always decent as well :) definitely a car woth its weight in gold.

1991 Ford Tempo GL 2.3

Summary:

A great deal, if you are good with maintaining cars

Faults:

Right Front Axle snapped from abuse by previous owner.

Right ball joint went due to same reason.

Driver side rear wheel bearing failed, causing spindle to snap.

Front power windows fails intermittently.

Paint is fading on trunk and roof.

Stalls frequently, but fixed after tuning up car.

A/C doesn't work.

Uneven tire wear due to alignment neglect from previous owner.

LED display no longer lights up on radio, but I replaced the radio with an aftermarket CD receiver.

General Comments:

This car is kind of slow and struggles on hilly roads. I only bought this car for field service trips.

The car is quite comfortable on long trips and is reliable, as long as you take good care of it.

I do a lot of traveling, and it has not let me down a lot, except for the suspension issues I've had with it so far.

It handles well for a cheap car, but easily loses control when driving too fast over bumps and pot holes.

The engine is in very good shape so far. It only burns less than a quart of oil every 3000 miles, but I wish it would not burn any at all.

I'm hoping that this car will last for a couple of years because any major issues happen.

1991 Ford Tempo GL 2.3

Summary:

A quick car, can drag race a mustang gt and beat it

Faults:

The dash board lights went out, very bad gas mileage.

I get 13 miles a gallon, and now that gas in California is at $2.25 it is very expensive.

Sometime, the car turns of when turning, or when behind a red light.

The top speed of the car is only 80 mph.

The car has no leg room, it is very very small.

General Comments:

I love this car, its very quick, and it handles great.

It's my 1st car and I love it, we used it as storage for 5 years, i.e it was not driven for 5 years, but when I turned the car on after 5 years it worked there was noting wrong with. I have been driving it ever sence and it has no engine problems.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Sounds like a great car: a 4 cylinder that only gets 13 mpg, won't go faster than 80 mph and stalls out while driving.

You probably should have just continued using it as a storage shed.

How do you know your Tempo could beat a Mustang GT in a drag race? Or is that just wishful thinking? More like total fantasy, actually.

Actually, I have a tempo, and even though the speedometer only goes to 85 or 80, I have gone about 95 in mine. I topped it out, but it still kept on accelerating. I can't say I know the exact speed, but it went at least 90 mph.

With the five speed you can squeeze about 120mph out of the little four banger if you just keep it gas pedal pinned long enough. You can (with the 5 speed) beat out the old 4 banger 'stangs, similar engine, but the tempo is lighter.
