1999 Ford Windstar sel 3.8

Faults:

Having problems opening the driver side sliding door.

I cannot open it from inside or out. I've tried doing it manually and with the auto. I think the handle no longer releases. How do I remedie this?

Have anyone had this problem with this car? Any suggestion?

Faults:

The dreaded transmission problem I have read so much about. This is unbelievable. I had a Ford Explorer a few years ago and ended up winning a lawsuit courtesy of the lemon law. I should have learned my lesson after that, but my wife really wanted this 99 Windstar. Haven't had any of the other problems listed, but it sounds like it's only a matter of time. Good grief. Never will I own another Ford, even if its the last car on the road. I would rather ride a bike, or maybe roller skate.

You really didn't tell us anything in this review. Did you ever perform any maintenance on this vehicle at all? My guess would be no.

1999 Ford Windstar SE 3.0

Summary:

After 2 blown transmissions, the design is pathetic

Faults:

Transmission Blew at 43,000 miles.

Transmission Blew again today at 77,000 miles.

General Comments:

My 1999 Ford Windstar isn't worth half what I paid. The transmission blew twice.

We had purchased an extended warranty, but it only covered repairing it, not a complete rebuild or replacement.

So 3 years and 25,000 miles later, it went today on the highway 150 miles from here with my pregnant wife and 3 kids in it. It probably would have happened sooner if she ever drove more than 5 miles at a time. Thank you goes out to the New Hampshire State Police! They did a great job serving and protecting on this nightmare.

Ford should pay me for all this aggravation, this has happened twice within 50,000 miles. I will never buy a Ford Again.

1999 Ford Windstar LX

Faults:

Issue 1: I recently got the van back from service & I am unable to Unlock the Glove Box, how can I get the Glove Box Opened. The Key Turns Both in Lock & Unlock Positions, but I am still unable to open Glove Box?

Issue 2: Has been going on for a while... Check engin Light comes on after Long Drives, even after clearing it will come back on, Code determines Mis-Fire in Cylinder 1, Replaced all Plugs, Cables, What else can I try?

General Comments:

Okay, A bit of a Gas Hog!

100 Litre Tank 500/600 km per Tank.

1999 Ford Windstar LX 3.8

Summary:

If you are going to get a Ford lease it only for the duration of the warranty, then dump it.

Faults:

Driver's seat cover pulled apart when it was 12 months old. Took it back to the dealer who replaced the cover and once the warranty expired, the bottom cushion broke down.

Rack and pinion unit went at 38,000 miles; car was about 4 years old. Shortly there after rear brake cylinders began leaking and had to be replaced.

Interior lights started blinking on and off at about 45,000 miles - typical door sensor short circuit.

Intake manifold cracked and had to be replaced at about 48,000 miles.

Engine coolant pipe across back of engine began to leak at 59,000 miles. Part cost $89, repair cost almost $400. Top of engine had to be removed to replace pipe.

63,000 mile and the obligatory transmission failure occurred without warning. Trans is being replaced with a rebuilt for $2700.

General Comments:

This is the second Windstar I've owned. Had a 1995 for 4 years and sold it to get this one. I never planned to keep it this long and now I'm paying for that mistake. I'll never buy a Ford again. I had two early Mustangs (1967 & 1970) and I loved them both. I now hate Fords.

We had a Dodge Charger piece of crap back in mid 80's that was total garbage and I've never bought or even considered a Chrysler product again. Now Ford gets added to the list.

Our 2004 Odyssey is great and from now on I'll be buying Honda, Toyota or Nissan.

Ford is in a death spiral and they deserve all they get. They put themselves in this position I hope they pay as dearly as we are for their crap engineering.

Sad thing is this Windstar never broke under warranty, but started all its antics just after it expired. Good job Ford, way to build for the short term. May you reap what you sow.
