Not bad considering you put on about 26,000 miles/year.

2000 GMC Jimmy SL V.6

Summary:

General Motor Company, for me stands for bad business and low integrity

Faults:

Oil changed every 3,000 miles by the dealership.

At 52,000 miles-A #5 rod went bad. I had to have six rings and a bearing kit, seal and a gasket set. $1400.

At 68,000 miles-I had to have the head transfer case fluid changed.$159.

At 90,000 the turn signal. $208.89.

At 96835 miles I had to have head gasket set, oil cooler lines, flush kit, several different gasket sets- total cost this time $1,922.54.

At about 100,000 I was told I needed to have a Crank kit again due to engine knot on driver side!! est. $1968.!!!

General Comments:

The 2000 General Motor Company (GMC) jimmy that I drive is a very nice car to look at. It has leather seats and a moon roof. It is power everything and the drivers side is comfortable to ride in. However the rest of the car is very uncomfortable. The passenger side has a large bump in the floor. This bump makes the legs hurt.

But, looks is only a small part of why we buy a car. Dependability is the number one reason we buy a car. The 2000 GMC jimmy has no depentability. It is high priced and poorly made! I'll bet that other GMC cars and trucks have the same dependability. The GMC people that I spoke with would not stand behind their workmanship. I was left holding the bag! So, I was left to drive around in a $20,000.00 car with a very badly made motor. I still haven't had the crank kit done. I just found out last week. No, they are not standing behind their work. It is called low integrity. Be careful.

2000 GMC Jimmy sle 4.3

Summary:

Should be much better for the price

Faults:

My father purchased this Jimmy new, at 25000m the front bearings needed replaced, 1 month after 3yr warranty was up, GMC would not cover repair. Wheel bearings replaced at 45000 and 57000m since. This vehicle is never off road and no reason other than a poor design for these frequent expensive repairs.

The rear wiper motor at 50000m and the drivers power mirror just broke. Because of this vehicle my father will never purchase another GM product. I also had to replace the door bushings.

General Comments:

Interior nice, but small, handles and rides good.

2000 GMC Jimmy SLT 4.3

Summary:

Built during a hangover?

Faults:

Of course, door hinges.

Fuel gauge is all over the place.

Falls on it's face when accelerating from lower speeds.

Grinding noise up front... as well as pulling to the left. Betting a wheel bearing (judging from the previous posts)

General Comments:

Why there's no recall for the bearings, transmission, door hinges and fuel gauge is beyond me.

Blogging will help fix that problem.

2000 GMC Jimmy SLE

Summary:

Reliable, Comfortable, Affordable. A+

Faults:

Very few things have gone wrong with the car.

CV Joint occasionally "pops" when making sharp turns.

Replaced idler arm and pitman arm at 90,000 miles which is typical for a Jimmy.

Replaced serpentine belt at 80,000 miles.

Slight hissing sound in air-conditioning unit.

General Comments:

I absolutely love this car. I still have a 1992 GMC Jimmy and it continues to be safe and reliable. This 2000 Jimmy is no exception.

It accelerates quickly and handles very nicely.

I take it in to get checked every 3 months and have only had to have mostly minor problems fixed. The only big problem was that the idler arm and pitman arm needed replaced (these typically need to be replaced at the same time). Over the past couple of years, I have spent around $500 on maintenance which is more than acceptable.

This car has been on terrain ranging from highway to soft sand and rarely every has a problem handling what I throw at it.

It is extremely comfortable. I can easily stay seated for over 6 hours without feeling a need to stretch.

My only complaint is that it only averages 18mpg and that there is a leak in the air-conditioning line (air not fluid). The air-conditioning still works just fine, but there is a slight hissing sound. This problem is very common in Jimmys.

As long as it gets some tender loving care every 3 months, it is a good car.
