2001 GMC Jimmy SLS 4.3 vortec

Summary:

I like it

Faults:

Ball Joints at 71000km.

General Comments:

Everyone complains so much about this vehicle, but I guess that's what the internet attracts... I LOVE IT. It's the most reliable vehicle for the price so far that I've owned...

It drives nice, the creature comforts are nice, it pulls my tent trailer no problems and it fits my 2 babies in the back seat no problem.

For the price these things are going for used they are a super deal...

2001 GMC Jimmy SLE 4X4 V6 4.3 Vortec

Summary:

LEMON

Faults:

Front hubs went out twice, first time not even a week after getting the car. Second time at 43000 miles.

Pitman arm went out at 42000 miles.

Front end is still a mystery. The car wanders all over the road. Steering is terrible. Very scary to drive on windy days. Dealership has no clue what is wrong.

General Comments:

This car is the worst car I have ever owned. When accelerating, it gets spurts of power. Maybe just a tune up, but from other reviews, I hope the transmission doesn't go out.

2001 GMC Jimmy SLT 4.3L 190-hp

Summary:

Gas sucker, but has a lot of heart

Faults:

Seatbelt covers cracked prematurely. Fixed under warranty.

Front passenger side seatbelt would not retract. Also fixed under warranty.

Heated seats get a bit too hot if left on during cold nights.

General Comments:

The leather seats are very comfortable, and provide good lumbar support on long trips.

Gas mileage has been rather poor; once you reach 1/4 tank left, the car sucks gas like it's going out of style.

In contrast to the front seats, the rear bench seat is very uncomfortable.

Cargo capacity is above average for a 'mini-ute'.

Surprisingly good for towing little things behind it.

Floor-mounted shift column is a nice touch. Wrapped in leather, it adds a touch of class.

Haven't needed to use 4-Wheel Drive too often, but it's worked when we've needed it.

Some plastic parts on the outside have a rather cheap look to them.

Gets dirty quite easily with the white paint.

Still looks just as pretty as the day we drove it off the lot.

Unfortunately, it's a company car, so we need to give it back in December. We won't miss the poor gas mileage, but it was a great car for my son to learn on, and took us back and forth to our cabin with ease many a time.
