1995 GMC Suburban SLT 5.7L V8

Summary:

The Suburban is a reliable, comfortable people mover and cargo hauler

Faults:

After a few months there was a water leak in the rear barn door seal.

The local dealer was honest enough to recommend taking the truck to an upholstery shop who replaced the seal and added sealant to take care of the problem.

General Comments:

We use this truck as a family vehicle for 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs plus visiting friends and relatives.

We also have a 31 cf cargo box on top and tow a 3500 lb. travel trailer easily with it.

Very comfortable highway cruiser for short and long-distance travel.

Parking in the city or tight spaces can be a challenge.

Small kids or adults may find it difficult to climb into or out of the truck. We have Nerf bars mounted on the sides to assist with entry and exit.

I'm not sure if this applies to all models, but our research showed that for this year, the VIN (Vehicle ID Number) that begins with a 1 was built in Janesville, WI in the factory that uses robots and people. The driver door label should also mention the factory location.

The VIN that begins with a 3 indicates the truck was made in Mexico, which did not use robots in 1995. This might explain why some models are not as reliable. There may also be a plant in Texas.

I have had my 95 for 11 years now. Love it. They only problems have been the air conditioner compressor. 8 of them so far. It has taken my family all over the place, from the east to the west coast. Does fantastic in the snow (4x4). The interior is starting to wear in the front seats. I really any going to hate to get rid of it. I believe the 95 model has the best realibility from the 90's to present. I diffidently got my moneys worth out of it. Just wash it up and it looks fantastic. It has had the engine oil change every 3000 miles, and all other oils and fluids annually. Wish I could buy a new 95!
