Summary:

A cheap race car that's great on gas

Faults:

Rust, Rust and more Rust.

Muffler fell off.

Engine burns a little oil.

Tie rods needed to be replaced.

Brakes need to be replaced.

A/C doesn't work.

Alternator comes off its mounts frequently.

General Comments:

This is one of the coolest cars I have owned. I drive it as fast as possible 99% of the time and still manage to stay under the speed limit and get 25mpg around town. It feels like a real race car because of it having no muffler and the excellent handling. If the brakes and muffler werent so annoying I would have given it a much higher rating for comfort. I think I will be trading it in soon however for an '82 Prelude, since that car costs as much as it would cost me to fix everything that's wrong with this car.

1982 Honda Accord 2.0

Summary:

A most durable and reliable car in spite of its age

Faults:

Since the car is old, I have more or less replaced every part in the engine except for the engine itself. The parts were all very inexpensive. The only major thing was the carburettor, which was rebuilt at 225K.

General Comments:

This has been the most durable and dependable car I have ever owned, and I highly recommend a Honda to any car owner. Like the Energizer Bunny, it keeps going and going.

1982 Honda Accord 1.8 carburetted

Summary:

Probably the best automotive value of all time

Faults:

As a broke student who liked to drive around the country a lot, I often had the urge to write Mr. Honda a letter saying thank you for making a car that is cheap, gets great fuel economy, is spacious enough, looks decent and is unbreakable. I hope wherever he is he gets this note.

I had to replace the tires, occasional tune ups.

Got a fresh seat from a junkyard.

Tie rod end.

Contacts on the lock cylinder.

One rear caliper and its brake hose had to be replaced.

Front struts when I got the car.

At 256,000 miles the clutch needed replacement and the transmission was popping out of gears.

It had started blow oil smoke after idling in traffic for a while (valve seals).

Since it had been rear ended at a traffic light (suffering no mechanical damage but looked pretty bad), that ended its life.

General Comments:

Not a powerful car, but since it was light, it felt peppy enough. The large gas tank meant 500 miles between fillups. Never let me down.

Great car, I agree, but there are no rear calipers, only drums. My Accord is at 252000 and burns no oil, and the engine is perfect, never so much as took off the head (Owned it the entire time) Had a Horrible Rear end situation, had to weld on a new trunk, but was a teenager at the time, and did the work myself, Can't tell at all, I am never getting rid of this car...

You are right about the caliper, it was the drum brake that had frozen :)

Summary:

Mine was a one-payment wonder!

Faults:

Water pump needed to be replaced.

Car needed a new clutch, but gave me 5 months warning.

General Comments:

I paid $500 for my car, and I love it. It is quieter than most new cars, gets 35-40 mpg, and is as smooth and quiet at 80mph, as it is at 45mph. I live in Savannah, GA, and have driven this car to Detroit MI and back, Key West, FL and back, Miami, FL (seperate trip) and back, as well as many trips to Atlanta. I drive 83+mph on the interstate. I never have to worry how I'll get where I'm going. This car works 365 days a year. I have even delivered pizzas in it. It is the best thing I have ever bought.

I bought mine for $350 in Feb. of this year, I am building it and I got it to race. I still runs good with the 198,139 miles it has. It has got a racing exhaust and other stuff, still beating cars.

Ps. This is my first car. I am only 17. It is red and 5 speed.

Yep, I have an 83 (exactly the same) Perfect and 252000 miles, no oil burn, no trouble running EVER, and no engine work ever, other than maintanance... a Perfect car, and yes, I get 38mpg, and top out at 115 MPH.

Lots of rust, foglamps never worked, engine fast idle overactive.

General Comments:

Except for a lot of rust, little goes wrong with this car.
