1996 Honda Accord LX 2.2L NA

Summary:

Money well spent!

Faults:

- Transmission was slipping gears... that was replaced within a few months.

- Valve cover gasket was replaced 3 times in total.

- Nothing beyond normal maintenance (brakes, rotors, tires, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs).

General Comments:

- Beware of cheap tires; you can't blame the car manufacturer if you put on the wrong type of tires for your driving style/conditions. I highly recommend Falken Ziex 912+ high performance tires. I have these on my car currently, and those tires have lasted me around 6 years of aggressive driving in all conditions (snow, rain, dry/wet).

While you won't win any speed awards, you can earn yourself a lot of speeding tickets because this car in the 5-speed manual VTEC or non-VTEC is pretty peppy. In fact I own an Acura TSX as well, and I prefer the way my old Honda drives.

Of course Honda locks and windows have problems, but those I can live with. Being stranded on the roadside due to reliability issues, I cannot, so this is why I am a proud owner of one of the best overall cars on the road!!

1996 Honda Accord EX 2.2

Summary:

Very good choice

Faults:

Radiator cracked at about 150,000 km. Replaced with aluminium one.

A/C would not hold freon. I had to refill every year for $140.

Exhaust pipe cracked at 170,000km.

After 15 years, rust started to show at the bottom of the doors.

General Comments:

Excellent car, I wish they still made them like that!

Good little engine, very quiet, not super-powerful, but enough to hover around. Great mileage on trips, 6.2 L/ 100 km, with 2 people and a trunk full of luggage. For a midsize sedan, it's not bad at all.

Transmission manual 5 speed - loved it.

Size - good enough size, roomy trunk, rear passengers had enough legroom for a road trip.

Interior - simple controls, nothing flashy, exactly what you need where you need it.

Overall experience - fantastic! This vehicle was bullet proof, never broke down, and maintenance was very cheap. The whole car feels like one piece, everything feels like quality, without being luxurious. Great car, highly recommend it!

I wish it had ABS brakes.

1996 Honda Accord EX 2.2

Summary:

Excellent economical vehicle

Faults:

Nothing so far, just the ABS light is on...

General Comments:

When I bought this car, it had 210,000, so naturally I was a bit worried, but when I test drove it, I had a great feeling...

I feel so lucky to own a Honda. It stands up to its name, and is just so reliable, even with the amount of mileage.

The muffler is a bit loud, but maybe because of age. It never overheats, the AC works great and it shifts smoothly. I get GREAT gas mileage, and my insurance is very low... I couldn't be happier with it...

Best part is... It's paid off babay!!!

I do not buy new cars... they are a financial rip-off if you do the actual correct math behind it...

I paid 2,300 for it, and I feel it will last me another 100,000 miles...

You are absolutely right, new cars are a complete rip-off.

If you calculate taxes, depreciation, and higher insurance costs on a new car, you are not saving anything at all.

Most people just want to own a new car and don't mind paying a lot more to do that, it does not save you any money.

1996 Honda Accord EX 2.2 VTEC

Summary:

All around best car I've owned

Faults:

Everything is worn like it should be for a 224,000 mile old car. No big bills from mechanics.

Timing belt around 100,000 miles, but that's maintenance.

General Comments:

Car still runs smooth, handles great, and looks pretty shiny. A little rust on the wheel wells, but that's common for older Hondas, nothing bad. Still good mph. Interior held up very nicely. For a small car it's pretty spacious, and still very quiet.
