1999 Honda Accord EX

Summary:

I bought the 1 in 100,000 Honda lemons

Faults:

Transmission started to slip around the 3rd year I bought it. I noticed it, but thought that it was in my head, because this was a brand new Honda. After the week after my 5 year and 75K warranty lapsed, the transmission went. I will give Honda credit, after I went to Aamco to get a rebuilt transmission, they did reimburse me after 2 weeks for half the 3k I put out for repairs.

I put a rebuilt engine in the car at 90K miles. I am not sure if it was due to a mechanic's error after my recent oil change or not. That cost me $800.

At 90K, my air conditioner stopped working. They are not telling me I have a leak and the part alone will cost me $700.

At 100K miles, my right side with will not roll down. I am told it is the motor and could cost me a few hundred dollars.

General Comments:

In ten years, I paid a $500 car note; paid for the regular services maintanance repairs; and replace major parts. This car looked pretty to everyone else, but it did not live up to the "Honda" expectations.

I am tired of everyone saying, "I had a Honda with no problem." I do not doubt the Honda quality. I just bought the "Lemon" off the assembly line. I am finally selling it this week.

$3k for a replacement transmission? Yet another reason I refuse to buy a Honda or any Japanese car for that matter. What is the advantage of spending more to get a Honda if you're going to have the same problems as the supposed cheaper, inferior American and Korean cars? Let's see... spend more to buy a Honda, spend more to fix it. How does that come out to be a better deal?

1999 Honda Accord EX V6 3.0L

Summary:

Maybe I'm lucky, but this has been a great car!

Faults:

Outside of routine maintenance, not much.

Replaced battery around 80K miles.

Replaced alternator at around 100,000 miles.

Routine 90K timing belt replacement wasn't done until 161K miles.

Now at 162,500 miles, my transmission is acting up.

General Comments:

Overall, I'd say it has been a great car, compared to the others I have had in the past. Will fix/replace transmission and keep going till it dies, which I don't expect for a few more years. After 9 years, I still enjoy driving it!

1999 Honda Accord EX 2.3L

Summary:

Honda stands behind their product!!!

Faults:

The problems I had with this car are that 3 of my power door locks failed.

Clock light also burned out about 2 times.

My odometer light burned out one time.

And the worst part was that my transmission failed at 99800 miles.

I also had a check engine light for a bad O2 sensor.

General Comments:

Overall Honda stands behind their product. Honda covered my transmission under their goodwill warranty for no cost. And the O2 sensor was also cover under warranty.

The clock light bulb only cost me about $3 each. And I replaced the power door locks myself for almost nothing.

I know that there isn't a perfect car, but the problems did not drive me crazy; they were fixed one time and they did not reoccur.

1999 Honda Accord LX V6

Summary:

Overall, a good car

Faults:

The front rotor is warped at about 150,000 miles, and the brakes have been squealing since 150,000 too.

The leather in the driver's seat is worn and the paint in the front is looking bad. Also, the body is wearing down.

General Comments:

The car performs quite well. I've gotten it to 60 MPH in 8 seconds, but it doesn't has a lot of passing power. I've gotten killed by various Crown Victorias, Grand Prix's and other American cars.

The gas mileage is good, probably something like 25-28 MPG on the highway and 23-25 MPG in the city. Don't run the air conditioning or the car will eat up gas like it's nothing.

I'm 17, and the car has been quite easy and fun to drive so far, but I'm thinking about getting a Town Car myself.
