1989 Honda Civic Sedan DX 1.5L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Every import customizers dream

Faults:

My engine and transmission need to be replaced at 159,000 miles.

Seats need to be either recovered or replaced.

CV joints need to be replaced.

General Comments:

For a car that has been neglected for about four years, it still runs and starts perfectly.

This car has many options as far as engine swaps and aftermarket parts.

The view from the drivers seat is execellent, almost no blind spots due to the amount of windows.

The car is fairly easy to work on assuming that you have basic mechanics skills and a handbook.

I acquired this car through a family member that did not change any fluids in it the whole time he owned it, the transmission fluid was black, the oil was gray, and the radiator fluid was orange. I'm amazed at how the car has held together with such little maintenance.

1989 Honda Civic DX 1.5 single Vtech

Summary:

Watch out for me on the Jersey highways!!!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car, yet. Hopefully, it will stay this way for a long time. :)

General Comments:

I'm a 20 year old female and love cars. In my 3 years of driving, I've been the proud owner of a Nissan Sentra LXE, an Acura Integra GX, and a Honda Civic LX. My newest toy is the hatchback.

I now own an '89 Civic Hatchback DX and dropped a '94 single v-tech engine into it.

This car runs seriously fast.

It has a new exhaust, intake, and short shifter.

My baby also has a wide-mouth kit, a carbon fiber hood, and euro head and tail lights.

I'm getting her a new paint job, pearl white with black interior.

She's also fitted with 13" GSR Swirly rims in the front and 18" Racing Heart rims in the back.

Hi, I would like to see it too. I also have a 1989 honda civic hatchback, I would love to get pointers on how to hook it up...thanks!

Cool sounding set of wheels, I just got a 89 hatchback and have been thinking about a CF hood, and a Feelz body kit, however I'm wanting to just keep the stocker engine and upgrade it. What can I say? I like being able to pass gas stations! And if you're a taxi for friends getting 5 bucks here and there, you actually MAKE money!.

1989 Honda Civic DX 1.5L

Summary:

Can't go wrong reliable money saver

Faults:

I bought the car for $50.00 it needed a radiator and a front bumper, got the radiator, since then the cv joints went out, the valves, started to stick, started leaking oil. Keeping in mind that I am a teenager and I made it through 17 wrecks and it's just keeps on going. About 6 months ago the timing belt broke poor maintenance by me..

General Comments:

Great gas mileage in stop and go traffic is got 50 MILES to the gallon. It was mainly city driven.

Cheap to maintain.

Very reliable.

The car would do 70mph in 1/4 mile.

Seat are comfortable.

Back seat very roomy I am 240 lbs and I can get in and out with even touching the front seat with it all the way back.

1989 Honda Civic DX 1.5L

Summary:

It is a great little car

Faults:

I am the third owner of this car. I'm not aware of past problems or when parts were changed. The only thing I know is that the car was previously owned by a Honda mechanic.

So far, the only problem I have had with the car is the radiator. About 8 months ago it cracked right at the top where it gets bolted to hold it in place. and for 8 months now every other day I put anti-freeze in the overflow and off I go.

At 160,000 or so I had to replace the CV boot on the right front side.

I expect that as I put more miles on the car, other problems will come up, but I believe that it will just be part of maintaining the car and not real problems.

General Comments:

I can drive between 300 to 350 miles on a tank of gas.

I like the way the dash has a flat area. And all the controls are easy to reach.

The car has the best air conditioning. I doesn't just cool you off, it freezes you, and that is only on the first setting.

The fabric on the seats is uncomfortable, but it is nothing that a seat cover can't fix.

There is a lot more room inside then you think. My husband who is 6 foot plus has no problems getting in my car.
