1996 Honda Civic LX 1.6 16v 4 cylinder

Summary:

Very reliable and comfortable compact car.

Faults:

I actively followed the maintenence schedule, sometimes early. The clutch lasted until 70k miles. Around the time I sold it, the emissions control system needed repair (exhaust sensors) causing "check engine" to appear.

General Comments:

For a compact 4-door, this car was fun to drive, nice performance. Engine revved like a race car.

Car handled quite well on corners.

Great gas mileage and easy to work on.

Took many road trips with this car and was very comfortable for long trips.

Two significant things I was disappointed with. Cruise control was a bit choppy (though I'm anal about detail), and the power windows were slow and sounded cheap. Road noise was a bit high.

1996 Honda Civic EX

Summary:

Awesome sporty little car

Faults:

Well, other than me smashing it up a little, the only thing that went wrong is the driver's side window jumped off track. And the dealership would not fix it under the extended warranty, even though they agreed that it was a common problem with the 96 Civic. They wanted to charge me $90, so I fixed it myself... If you have little patience pay the $90, the whole process was a big pain in the butt, and after about 3 times the amount of time it would take them, I finally got it on track.

General Comments:

I love this car, it is sporty and economic all in one. It has the probably one of the biggest areas for improvement out of any make/model of any vehicle.

I truly recommend the upgraded VTEC engine, to anyone who wants their car to move! I am currently paying to put the newest VTEC in, and upgrading and accessorising :). Expensive but well worth the effort. This car is a beauty.

1996 Honda Civic DX 1.5

Summary:

Reliable

Faults:

The exhaust pipe connection to the engine has cracked.

I have been very happy with this vehicle, it starts in the middle of winter with a single turn of the key, and seems to cruise nicely at 80mph. Nice vehicle to get you from A to B.

1996 Honda Civic DX 1.9L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Voted 1996 car of the year

Faults:

The ignition got jammed and had to be replaced after 2 years.

The drivers side window (manual) would get dislodged and need to be realigned after 4 years.

Other than that a great car.

General Comments:

A nice 2-door car with plenty of trunk space for a compact. The car had plenty of speed for a 4 cylinder and could do 110 mph easy. Performed minor manintenance after 3 years with no problems. Gas mileage is excellent.

1996 Honda Civic 1.6

Faults:

Lots of things - CV joints, the head gasket cracked.

General Comments:

I'm very disappointed, I bought this car cause everyone bragged about how they were so good, and to think I traded my Festiva in on this thing!

I'm amazed that your Festiva was more reliable than your Civic. I've read hundreds of reports and experiences with the Civics and they seem incredibly reliable (I've never known anyone with a crappy Honda)..

I deliver in a '92 Festiva and it does the job, but it's a piece of crap. My aunt also owns a '92 Festiva and it's also crap.

I know MANY people that have had crappy Civics... Go for the Accord if you want a reliable Honda.

Are you crazy civic is more reliable than accord go to consumer report!!!you are maybe drunk...

To the person above me, it sounds like you had an 80's Accord. As they get older things will end up wearing out. However, Hondas like any other car, are only are as good as they are taken care of.
