1997 Honda Civic EX 4 cylinder

Summary:

Too many inconveniences

Faults:

Windows come off their tracks.

Rubber seal around windows not affixed to the car properly, which is the reason why the windows come off the tracks.

Spoiler lens not approved by New Jersey Dept of Motor Vehicles.

General Comments:

Seats incredibly uncomfortable.

Anyone 6ft or over has a problem with headroom - my husband's touches the top and that is with the seat pushed all the way back.

Some areas extremely difficult to clean with a vacuum.

I have had problems with my windows. I have had to replace my front windows three times already. I'm also experiencing engine problems-it just shuts off if I apply the brakes too hard. I'm very disappointed with Honda.

The windows are on a recall bulletin. Also Honda automatic transmissions have been quite unreliable compared to their manual's in my experiences. I've had 2 88 Accords, one a hatch-back and a 98 Civic, all but one were manual. The first was auto... hence the reason why I stuck to manual thereafter. Honda's are generally good car's except the problems I've had with their automatics.

1997 Honda Civic HX small

Summary:

Cool economy car with get-up-and-go

Faults:

Battery died after I left the radio on for too long.

Hood rattled for a while, but the dealer adjusted a damper for free out of warranty and the problem is gone.

General Comments:

Great little car. It's supposed to be an economical car, but when you drop that 5-speed down into third and stomp the gas, the VTEC engine will get up and scream. I've had it up to 110 mph and it felt just fine. I even auto-crossed at a local SCCA race. I lost, but had fun.

It gets 42 mpg even with the A/C on, looks good, cranks every time, has great re-sale value (unless they find out about the race) and should stay this way for years to come.

How is it that you got your '97 HX up to 110 MPH? I also have a '97 HX and she tops out at 95 MPH, Unless I get a small hill, is that the same for you? I know that you'll only get it 100 MPH if you hit a small downhill. Unless you know another trick?

1997 Honda Civic EX 1.6 (?) Gas

Faults:

Front headlight leaked (water), changed under warranty; crack in plastic at base of antenna mounting (present when bought).

General Comments:

Good car, suspension too soft making handling less enjoyable. Not that fuel-efficient, my Camry gets better mileage; cheap plastic interior, cheap radio; poor handling in winter due to low ground clearance, this depite Michelin Alpin tires. I prefer German cars, even though noted to be not as reliable.

1997 Honda Civic EX

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This car has been very reliable. Bought it new, and only expenses have been regular oil changes and scheduled services. My only complaint is that the scheduled services can be expensive.

1997 Honda Civic EX 1.6 VTEC

Faults:

I bought this car used so I have had a few minor things repaired such as window insulation (free from dealer). The only thing I would change about it would be the bad smell with the startup of the a/c.

General Comments:

I love the sporty look with the spoiler and alum rims.

1997 Honda Civic LX

Faults:

I have been quite regular in my servicing of the car and at 50,000 road miles, nothing has gone wrong. My engine kicks a teeny bit as it changes gears, and gas mileage is not as high as I expected, but overall, I am pleased with my purchase. I think the Civic makes a great first time new car.

I just bought a used '97 Honda Civic LX stickshift, I bought it at 55,000 miles and I love it. It runs like new and it's such a great car for me. I plan on making some modifications to it and to play around with it a little bit.
