1998 Honda Civic Si

Summary:

You can't go wrong with a Civic!

General Comments:

I have owned the car sinc November 05, so far so good. I forgot how fun Honda's are to drive!

What a highly informative review that was...not!

1998 Honda Civic CX Hatchback 1.5L

Summary:

Love my Civics, but my interest is waning

Faults:

Nothing noteworthy has gone wrong with my '98 Honda Civic hatchback. Just oil changes every 3000 miles and the usual tuneups required. I did have to have the manifold replaced along with the exhaust, but that wasn't until 123K miles. Understandable with the New York winters and the amount of snow/SALT on the roads.

General Comments:

LOVE the simplicity of this model Civic. I also own a 2002 Civic LX sedan, but truthfully the hatchback is more fun to drive. The 1998 is consistently getting 40mpg, and the 2002 is pretty much right on the money of 38mpg.

Will I buy another Honda? Not sure. The new Civic sedans are beyond ugly, IMHO. Presently considering the Toyota Yaris, Scion xB/xA, as well as the Honda Fit as my next car.

Basically, it comes down to this: (and if there's any dealers in the upstate NY area reading this, take note) Whatever company can give me the best deal on my next car, my business is yours.

New Civic ugly? I guess you love them Lancer car rental specials or those aged looking Corolla looks. I love the new Civic and I get a lot of people giving me the thumbs up in traffic.

You're entitled to your opinion as I am mine.

1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe 1.6 gas

Summary:

Overall this is the best, funnest-to-drive car I've ever owned

Faults:

Changed rotors and pads to new OEM-type at 47,000 miles. Cost: $300. Original rotors were warped and so they pulsed when braking. The new ones are perfect after 12,000 miles.

I'm on my third set of tires. They always wear unevenly. Admittedly, I drive the car in a "sporting" manner much of the time.

General Comments:

The seats are typical Japanese -- not very comfortable for cross-country drives, although I've seen worse.

Fuel economy is EPA 32/38 mpg, but all I ever seem to get is around 30 mpg in mixed driving. That's 7.8 l / 100 km for those outside the USA. (I doubt this car was ever available outside the USA.)

Road noise is considerable at 75 mph. Even so, I've done several cross-country drives and would not hesitate to do one again. The car is dead reliable.

I love the suspension on this car. It seems to keep the tires in contact with the road surface, even when cornering hard over uneven pavement.

I have a 94 civic EX and have been taking some of those long trips. I just love the way the tires grip the ground when cornering. Each time I return from my trip, I will step out, look at the little beast and just laugh... Great car!

1998 Honda Civic EX 1.7

Summary:

Reliable, but boring as

Faults:

Trunk leaks and fills up with water in heavy rain.

Driver's seat is wearing badly.

General Comments:

This car is extremely reliable and good quality... what you expect from a Honda.

Performance is pretty crap.. you need to rev it high all the time to get any juice. Our old Mazda 323 was much better.

Handling... too much body roll, feels like a giant sponge... our Subaru wagon corners better than this car.

I really hate the interior.. it is gray plastic and has a really cheap feeling considering the price paid for this car. Also the seats have pretty much no support so you slide around a lot.

My mother even complains about this car's boring-ness.

The car is boring? Read a good book.

It's a small displacement four cylinder, they don't make much horsepower until 4000rpm or higher. Tires will make a world of difference for handling.

1998 Honda Civic LX

Summary:

I love my Honda!!!

Faults:

I have only had to make minor repairs, which of course, I think goes along for everyone. You can't have a car and expect everything to be perfect. However, I have made no over-the-top repairs.

However, I am not happy with the check engine light. This light very frequently comes on, and then back off. Recently, it has decided it wants to haunt me for the rest of my life and will not go away.

General Comments:

I love this car! It is my first car, and I have definitely put the miles on it in the time I've had it. Nothing has gone wrong yet (hope I didn't just jinx myself), and I would definitely buy another Honda.

The check engine light is probably your gas filler cap. Try turning it until it clicks about 5 times.
