2004 Honda Civic EX 1.7

Summary:

Great car for the money!

Faults:

Battery went bad at about 20,000 miles. The car would not start sometimes.

Console latch and hinge went bad. The console is very hard to open.

General Comments:

I truly love my Civic.

It is definitely not the fastest car you can buy, but when you rev out the gears, performance is OK and fun to drive.

My previous car was a 99 Civic Si coupe, so based on performance, there is no comparison.

I can’t understand how people write poor reviews about this car.

It is designed with the same thought every year. A sharp looking car with adequate power, fairly comfortable interior and great gas mileage.

Some reviews I read are from owners of the DX model. There are only a couple of reasons why one would buy the DX model. It is an affordable car with great reliability and gas mileage. You can’t expect much more out of a car than that for less than 15k. So I guess I don’t understand what owners are expecting in that price range?

The interior is simple, but clean. The gauges look very nice. The gearbox on the manual is top notch in my opinion for $16,500.

I have the coupe and am happy with interior space in the back, especially with the flat floor.

I think the exterior is much classier than previous Civics, and has nicer body lines than anything in its class.

I ordered the car from the dealer with the optional body kit and spoiler. I don’t believe that you can buy a better all around car with those options for 18k.

I have been driving Honda Civics and Accords since 1996, and don’t plan on buying any other brand, unless Honda just doesn’t offer the style of car that I am looking for.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

DX model Civics are literally the most reliable cars on the roads today. I drive a 1993 DX with 105,000 miles on it and it runs like yesterday.

I have an 04 Civic VP coupe and I love it! I only paied $13000 OTD new. It's reliable, great on gas, and has great design. 06 looks OK, but I really think that 04 and 05 looks better than any other years. I put 80,000 miles in 2.5 years and never had any problems. It does not cost a lot to maintain either. I don't think there's any other car under $15000 offer more than this.

In the past, I had a 1979 manual Honda hatchback. When purchased in 1994 it had over 200,000k miles in 2 years. I added another 200,000k and finally came to its end.

I just recently a 2004 Honda Civic DX VP automatic tranny. While entering the freeway I hit the gas pedal to the floor and the car just lost power. It seemed like the tranny went out, but also the engine is acting up.

The console is acting up; for example, when I turn the car on, the battery light is on and the cooling temperature needle works, and the light for the battery goes out, and the temperature needle drops. The car still drives, but it takes forever to pick-up speed without the motor stressing. Has this happened to anybody?

2004 Honda Civic Hybrid

Summary:

Not worth the money

Faults:

Battery replaced by dealer- wouldn't hold a charge. Front brakes. Recall for reprogramming the computer and something with the battery pack charging system.

General Comments:

I have two things that bother me about this car- the first is mileage. A stinking 35mpg when it was supposed to get 46- big difference, I would have just bought a regular civic for 5K less and probably get 3mpg less. Also the car is a flimsy tin can- soaks up dings and scrapes. It reliable, I like the interior quality, just not a long lasting and durable expenditure of $20K.

Honda's aren't as reliable as they used to be, so you may get disapointed even more.

You probably would have been served better with a Focus for thousands less.

I sold it. I kept my Land Rover and I am driving my big barge around and LOVING it- so what- I'll spend an extra $29 a week on gas! It was easy to sell 'cause others have bought into the hybrid hype.
