2008 Honda Civic LX 1.8

Summary:

Disappointing

Faults:

Check engine light coming on, again and again. What will happen when the warranty will be gone? Very bad service from the Honda dealership.

Faulty brakes (calipers) and suspension, front and rear!

Several squeaks and rattles, some intermittent.

Windshield washer system went down.

General Comments:

Disappointing. A waste of time and money. Car will be for sale probably next year.

The check engine light coming on is due to the gas cap not being tightened properly. I had it happen with my 2005 Civic on 3 occasions. It will turn itself off, and next time you put gas in the car, be sure to turn the cap so that it "clicks" 3 times.

2008 Honda Civic LX Sedan 1.8

Summary:

Honda's compact car secret that is as loyal as a loyal friend

Faults:

No problems at all.

General Comments:

This is our 8th Honda Civic. We had: a 1980, a 1984, a 1988, a 1992, a 1996, a 2000, a 2004, and now this one. All of them were sedans, including this one, and all had/or have automatic transmissions.

As far as this one is concerned, we absolutely love it to death! The dealership that we have been dealing with since we got the 1980 model knows us by name. We got treated great when we got our 2008. It was love at first sight when we saw this one. Many people that we know have this version and are proud to say that they love their Civics.

The interior is as impressive as the outside.

It rides beautifully and handles the same.

Gas mileage? Need we go further? It is great!!!

The reason why we have such a loyal fan of the Honda Civic for such a long time is simple. They are great cars that speak for themselves. Tons of Honda Civics are still roaming the roads to this very day. Why? Cause they are great cars.

So if you are in the market for this version of the Honda Civic, please pay a visit to your nearest Honda dealer and take one of these for a test drive. You will fall in love with it and be a loyal fan like we are. They make perfect first cars for the first time drivers. And they will run forever. Basically, they are like a truly loyal friend.

I have a 2008 Honda Civic as well and I couldn't agree more. I owned a Ford before I bought my Civic and I'm so glad I didn't buy another Ford. Honda is so much better.

I bought my wife a 2008 Civic LX for her birthday in 6/08. She loves the car to death. My perspective is slightly different. She's 5'3" I'm just over 6'. There's not enough leg room for me and I find the seats uncomfortable at best, especially on a long drive. Mechanically the car is great, the little 1.8 L4 is very responsive and the double wishbone suspension/4 wheel disc brakes make it handle like a slot car. Gas mileage is not what I expected, but overall it's a good car.

2008 Honda Civic Hybrid Hybrid

Summary:

Handles well, performance is horrible

General Comments:

I checked out this car from work for business and traveled over 1,000 miles in a few weeks. I must say, for a hybrid, the gas mileage is horrendous. At about 75 MPH on the interstate it gets a measly 33 MPG! On the flat backroads, it gets up to 40 MPG at 60 MPH. That is if you have the wind at your back. If you are traveling into the wind, it drops to about 34 MPG.

It has to drop down a gear just to make it up small hills at over 60 MPH, and the acceleration is on par with a Nash Rambler.

I came up with these figures using the trip meters that give you MPG along with distance and drove a minimum of 40-60 miles before accepting the figures as true. I drove about 500 miles in the past 4 days (most of it was highway) and only got 35 MPG total.

For those looking for a hybrid, this one is a joke, especially at the price tag. Buy an early 2000s Saturn or other 4 cylinder. They get better mileage. Or if you still like hybrids, the Prius gets 43-50 at about 70 MPH.

If you had done your research, you would not have bought a hybrid if you do mainly freeway commuting. A hybrid returns higher mileage under stop and go driving conditions such as one would encounter in the city vs a standard IC powered car. Otherwise you are better off with a non-hybrid (you'll save money).

Also, slow down. Cars run most efficiently at 55 mph (that is where the EPA figures come from). At speeds higher than that, the drag makes the engine work harder to maintain speed, thus your mileage goes down.

Don't blame the car for your choice and driving habits.

BTW the combined mileage of that car is 42MPG!

Your fuel mileage sucks because of the way you drive it. You make the car work its hardest to keep up with you.

It's a hybrid, it works for efficient fuel mileage, so you should drive it efficient.
