1988 Honda CRX HF 1.6 ZC

Summary:

A truly economical sports car

Faults:

I've had no real problems with original 62 horsepower engine or the recently installed ZC engine.

General Comments:

I've always been a fan of Honda's superior engineering. I've previously owned a 1977 Civic and a 1980 Accord - both were great cars.

My CRX is fast and reliable, handles well, has plenty of interior space, and still gets great gas mileage. From time to time I think about replacing it with something newer, but always come to the conclusion that my CRX fills my transportation, and entertainment needs quite well.

1988 Honda CRX DX 1.5 Fuel injection

Summary:

The Best Car I've Ever Owned

Faults:

Brakes, Shocks, Seats, Tires, Cassette Player were in really bad condition.

General Comments:

This car handles great even though it is automatic, but I have defeated the Si's, It is so good in fuel consumption, I think ill keep this car until the motor dies and after it dies ill put a zc motor in there.

Any extra comments on the automatic tranny? I'm a bum who never learned to drive a stick, but I love the looks of the CRX. I'd love to drive it to work and back every day, and with my 20mi commute, I could go forever on a tank of gas.

Shoulda snapped up the one I saw for $1,000, but was fretting over the automatic, bit if they are even remotely as reliable as the sticks, I'll lay in front of the next one I see!!

If anyone else can help with reviews on the automatic transmissions in the CRXes, zap me an e-mail at Stevo4035@aol.com.

Much appreciated!

1988 Honda CRX HF 1.5 Liter Inline 4

Summary:

My Honda may outlast me!

Faults:

Bought at 150k miles

175k miles had to fix the brakes and clutch (worn out)

215k miles replaced one CV joint (did both at same time though)

250k miles battery died pushed the car down hill and started it then bought a $40 battery

310k miles still going strong and even the a/c still works.

General Comments:

Just like my 275k mile 85 prelude before they've lasted me forever. Fun to drive and I enjoy the SUV slalom on the way to work while getting 40+ mpg. The engine is only 63 hp, but in a 2,000 lb car it still moves pretty quick. I added some larger steel wheels to the car and it can ashame most sports cars on the road.

1988 Honda CRX Si 1.6

Summary:

This car is forced to be reckon with

Faults:

When I first got the car, the alternator was bad, so the guy that owned it, subtracted the original amount so that I can fix the alternator.

Replaced the timing belt and water pump. It didn't break, I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't if I was driving.

Distributor broke when I first got the car. I accidentally hit the curb while backing up, but either than that, if you take care of it real well, nothing really bad will happen to it.

And of course, the typical maintenance, like brake pads were also replaced.

General Comments:

I remember when I was 14 years old, I used to ride in the back of my brother in law's crx (which I own now) and I just fell in love with the car. He had a swapped engine which was an Integra Ls. It pulled!!

So after dealing with a 1986 Celica Gt-s, I wanted a reliable car, but I had a tight budget. Right when I was about to buy a cheap car, my brother in law told me about the crx (which he had sold to his friend Chris). Sooner or later, it was mine for only $1800. The car had 172,000 miles on it. It still pulls, and it hogs the ground and it is such a light car that it can take any car on the road! But... It recently got stolen. I wish I still had the car and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Cheap car, great gas mileage and great looking if plan to fix up.
