1989 Honda CRX HF B15D

Summary:

A mid-performance steal!

Faults:

I did a few big things to the car right when I bought it like.

Alternator & battery (they went out the first day I had it)

Clutch (regular wear)

Clutch cable (I was pretty rough with it the first few months)

Seats are worthless (and I'm not a big guy or anything, they're just completely chewed up and not comfortable at all)

General Comments:

This is an amazing car, it gets almost 40mpg, when things go bad, you usually get a warning (i.e. sounds, smells, difference in feel). I drive many miles and this car just doesn't quit. The accident I got into with this car wasn't that bad, but it did demolish the passenger side, and the car now has a salvaged title, but aside from the occasional wheel scraping it's golden.

1989 Honda CRX Si 1.6

Summary:

Excellent little car!

Faults:

So far I've only had to replace the alternator belt and the a/c belt.

The driver's side seat has some wear, but that is my fault. (fat)

General Comments:

I love this car!!! The 1.6 is super quick and never lags at all. Plus I consistently get about 35 miles per gallon. I love people coming in where I work (gas station) and asking if it's for sell. (It's not) And this car is very reliable.

1989 Honda CRX Si 1.6 16v

Summary:

A rocket on rails

Faults:

I had to replace the rear left wheel bearing.

Had to replace two mufflers in four years.

The igniter failed often causing the engine to stall when at idle. (an inexpensive fix.)

Rear hatch squeaked consistently.

General Comments:

This is my favorite car I have ever owned. The fuel economy was terrific. The handling was terrific. And there are a tonne of performance parts for this little engine. With a few mild modifications, my car could accelerate faster than Mustangs and Cameros. Not too bad when your consistently getting 35+mpg. (even driving it hard) I moved across country and had to sell it due to lack of hauling space. I wish I never had.

1989 Honda CRX Si 1.6 litre DOHC

Summary:

I loved it so much I went back for thirds

Faults:

When I first received the car it had a bad clutch and the rear brakes leaked causing overall stopping power to be virtually none. The total of both repairs however was a relatively low $220. Other than that the car is in absolutely perfect condition.

General Comments:

This car is amazingly zippy and never fails me when I need to get around a semi on the freeway. It is virtually unshakable around corners, and loves to be downshifted. THIS CAR LIVES IN THE HIGH REVS!!!

I've put a few aftermarket parts on the vehicle such as a set of coil-overs, an intake, and a set of 17's. Although die-hard CRX fans don't embrace them, I am also planning on attaching a body kit to the vehicle.

This is my third CRX and I still own the last one. I got rid of the first because it was an HF and didn't make the grade in terms of speed.

1989 Honda CRX Si 1.6

Summary:

It's like a Mr. Potato -head, you can modify basically anything on the car

Faults:

My timing belt was replaced at 128,000 K's and it is just starting to go now at 235000.

Small tear in the driver's seat.

Car shudders sometimes when moving from stop, the clutch doesn't seem to be gripping enough.

General Comments:

This is my second CRX, and pound for pound, I believe that it is the best car for your money.

With that said, do not buy the first one you see unless you have a strong background in Honda cars.

I bought my last CRX for $4700, it had 135000 K's and I had to replace both tie-rods, the muffler, and brakes within 2000 K's of driving it.

Although my last CRX was a 1990, it had far more mechanical and cosmetic things wrong than my 1989 CRX.

I paid only $3000 for this one, and although I got a deal, I still have some work to do. That is why I bought another CRX, because I know how to repair them now and it is my project car for many years to come.
