2003 Honda S2000 2.0L Inline-4 VTEC

Summary:

Reliable Sports Car

Faults:

My cigarette Lighter Plug came loose after 6 months of excessive use. Everything else is running fine.

General Comments:

A great car for a great price. Handles like a dream. A little tight in the cockpit, but most sports cars are. VTEC Kicks in at 6000rpm feels like it has a supercharger, which is great especially when it's a 2.0L 4 cylinder NA engine pushing 240HP. Haven't came across any other engine like it that can produce that much power per liter without any NOS, turbos, or superchargers. Extremely reliable, so far haven't had any major mechanical problems.

2003 Honda S2000

Summary:

Beautiful to look at, fun to drive, but simply not worth it

Faults:

The dealer hasn't found anything wrong with the car, though I've had a problem with the clutch since I got it. I've taken it in five or six times, starting a few weeks after I got it.

General Comments:

The car drives really well, but it is so uncomfortable to sit in for any length of time. I'm 5'4" and not fat and there is no arm room for me.

The car was everything I asked for--2 seater convertable with an electric roof, good handling, ect.--but nothing more. The push button start was cute the first time, but it is simply stupid.

The car is too low to go through a car wash. No one ever says that. Prepare to do it yourself, or find a place that does it by hand (hard to find in NJ) or go dirty.

Oh, forget driving in the snow. A mere dusting can cause you to lose control of the vehicle at 5 mph.

It is fun to drive, but not in traffic. I've been driving manual transmissions for over 20 years. My last car went almost 150k without a clutch, this one feels like it's going and of course the dealer days it's me. I can't get the car in second gear when I'm going 15-20 mph (literally have to jam it into second) and that is my fault as well. If nothing else, the dealer insists the clutch is very sensitive on these cars and they've seen people bring them back with a few thousand miles on them and needing a new clutch. Take that for what it's worth.
