2001 Hyundai Accent GS 1.6L

Summary:

It left a sour taste in my mouth like old sushi

Faults:

The car seems to have a hard time gathering power and shifting when the overdrive is turned off.

I had to have the O2 sensor replaced more than 3 times already.

My tires wore very badly within 3 months requiring multiple alignments.

If you plan on going over 55 miles per hour plan on having your head vibrated off your shoulders.

The steering in this car is extremely choppy and sharp, like driving a go cart.

The exhaust is loud and very noisy at 4000 rpms.

To go from 0 to 60 miles per hour seemed to take the take my car at least one hour screaming between 4000 and 5500 rpm.

The cars brake pedal had to be mashed completely to the floor for the car to go into drive.

General Comments:

I would never consider buying another Korean automobile ever again!

I just want people judge a car for what it is. The Hyundai Accent is priced extremely low, and so some leeway should be given when thinking about its performance.

I'm sorry to see that www.carsurvey.org doesn't want offensive material posted, but allowed this person to say that "this left a bad taste in my mouth like old sushi". Sushi is a Japanese food. Hyundai is a Korean car, but this commenter seems to have confused his bigotry (unless it's against Asians in general).

He also saw fit to proclaim all Korean cars to be unfit because of his dissatisfaction with one particular low-priced automobile. I'm sure that if he had plunked down $18,000 for a Hyundai Sonata instead of $9,000 for the Accent, he would have been much more satisfied. Let's not judge a whole country based on one bargain priced automobile.

In case people want to know, I am not Korean, I am American.

Bravo on the previous comment!

2001 Hyundai Accent GL 1.6 4 Cylinder

Summary:

The Accent is fabulous baby!

Faults:

The only problem I have had is the fact that I think the tires are magnetic. I have replaced three tires in 6 months. Not the cars fault, I know.

The one other thing I experienced was a recall repair. It was only for a belt, and did not cost me anything. The only complaint I have is the untimely manner in which the recall repair was completed. I waited three months for the parts to be ordered and received, then two days for them to complete the work. I spoke to two other dealers after the fact that can guarantee the parts in seven days.

General Comments:

I do have to say that this car is one of the finest ones that I have ever owned, and trust me, that is an accomplishment. In my short driving history, I have owned 24 different models of vehicles in 16 makes. I purchased this car as an affordable mode of transportation, and haven't regretted it once.

The car was used when I purchased it, and I assumed the inevitable. Repairs, and maintenance have been minimal. I have changed the oil, and had one recall repair. No quirks, no noises, no failures.

Since purchase I have began to customize the car. I have done several things to the car with no problems, no delays, and no foul words.

My recommendation is to anyone who is considering an accent, research the dealer. There is no need to do much research into the brand or even model for that matter. For the money, or even double the money, this is a spectacular car.

2001 Hyundai Accent GL 1.6L

Summary:

An absolute bargain at $7500

Faults:

Absolutely nothing.

General Comments:

I needed to buy cheap dependable transportation fast. The Accent absolutely stood out among the other small economy cars. The long warranty sold me on this car along with the interior space.

I'm 6'4" tall and I am very comfortable in this car. The hatchback swallows up bulky items without any problem. The standard AM/FM cassette player and rear window de-fogger is great on such a basic car. Handling is quick and accurate, but I wish I had ordered the A/C in this hot summer.
