Faults:

Starter needed to be replaced, but nothing unusual about this.

Chipped paint should be attended to, as the car will rust faster than others.

This car does not accelerate fast, so if you're attempting to relive your youth, do it in another car.

General Comments:

This is the best car we have ever owned, beating out our Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and a few Fords.

I gambled on buying this car, used, with a lot of mileage. I have never regretted it. For a great price (<$1000), I bought a car that was well maintained, extremely reliable, and a pleasure to drive. With complete service records dating back 9 years, I can see that this car only required routine maintenance. I still have the original clutch and it works great.

The only major repair I've done is replacing a 10 year old starter, which is impressive for it's age.

The mileage I get out of this 10 year old car is amazing as well. On a 45L tank, I drove highway (Toronto to Chatham) and I got 800 km, which is unheard of.

Parts for this car are also generally cheaper than most, although I do recommend using the Hyundai oil filter for the Accent, not a K&N or off the shelf.

The car does tend to rust more (underside), because it uses a lower grade paint than most. This will only affect you if you drive in Montreal winters, as there is an excessive amount of road salt.

The 4 door has better seats and a better rear view than the 2 door coupe, and I recommend getting the 4 door.

The handling and response time of this car is also worth mentioning, and has saved my life on more than one occasion on the highway. The Accent is more narrow than most cars, and it allows you to manoeuvre through traffic very easily.

Don't use this car to accelerate like a maniac, it is not built for this purpose. If you're one or two people that need to get to work each morning, than this is a great car, competitively priced. A great first car, student car, and car for those that want to be smart with their money.

Faults:

At about 90,000 miles the transmission (automatic); got it replaced and have had no further trouble.

At about 100,000 miles the A/C compressor went out, had it replaced multiples times, and it is about to go out again.

But I do have a question regarding the Generator Pulse Assembly. I took my car to Auto Zone and had them read the codes, and they told me I had a bad VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor), although they didn't have one in stock, I called the dealership and they had what they called a Generator Pulse Assembly. I bought it hoping that it would make my speedometer start working and make my engine light go out, but that failed to happen for both. And as a matter of fact it created a transmission problem, it won't shift right and nor will it go into reverse. Can anyone advise me what to do. I just took it to the dealership. Faults:

Clutch went out in a year at 67k miles.

Had to do alignment once a month.

Weak body (death trap).

General Comments:

This car should be called the Hyundai Accident.

Tons of electronic gremlins.

The seats are so uncomfortable that after twenty minutes my back was killing me.

The best thing about this car fuel economy (40 mpg in the city, 50 hwy).
