2002 Hyundai Accent GL 1.6

Summary:

Love my car, hate the faulty transmission

Faults:

The transmission on this car keeps going out.

General Comments:

I am the original owner of my Accent. In the past 3 1/2 years it has had 3 transmissions put in, the last one being April 2008. It is an automatic transmission. I am currently trying to get Hyundai to pay for this transmission again. I have found multiple individuals with the same make and model as my car that have had the same troubles with their transmissions. I believe there is a mechanical malfunction with these.

I am looking into filing a class action lawsuit and would appreciate anyone who would be willing to write a statement to use in my efforts. Please e-mail me @ deborah_hagerty@yahoo.com.

2002 Hyundai Accent GS 1.6

Summary:

Step inside my Fundai..

Faults:

Plastic breaks easily, carpet gets dirty quickly.

General Comments:

For what I paid (which I bought used), this car has been a great deal. It never has left me stranded, always started up as long as the battery was good and gets great gas mileage with the 5-speed.

You can make your gas go even further when you put the car in neutral while coasting down hills with it; it rolls easily. It's now a beater, cosmetically, but this car goes and goes and goes... well, you get the point. Hyundai has been a good brand for me; I'd buy another one.

Just change the oil regularly, keep the fluids fresh.

With the stick, the car has a little more pep. I'd forgo the automatic version; it would be too slow. But the 5-speed is fun.

2002 Hyundai Accent GS 1.6

Summary:

Good transportation for those on a budget

Faults:

Had to replace both rear brake cylinders at 75,000 miles. Both rear brake cylinders were leaking. Replaced the parts myself... Relatively inexpensive at $15.00 per cylinder. Replaced front and rear brake pads at same time. Fronts were in good shape, but backs were worn. 82,000 cracked manifold... This is how I found this site... My car's check engine light came on and within a day the noise coming from the exhaust manifold has increased substantially. I guess this is a problem endemic to this model. = (JB Weld is a cheap fix. =)

General Comments:

Overall, I am very pleased with this car, despite the leaky brake cylinders and cracked manifold. It is a daily driver and to date has given me 34-36 mpg, driven mainly on the highway and at 60 mph. Interior is wearing OK... No major tears or wear spots... Some surface rust appearing on the exterior.

2002 Hyundai Accent

Summary:

A really bad car..

Faults:

The 'check engine' light came on. Had it in garage for diagnosis and repair. They put it on the computer, went through all the BS and said it was fixed. One week later, the 'check engine' light is back on, and they want us to pay another $400 to fix what they didn't find the first time. What a rip!!

General Comments:

The Hyundai Accent is cheap and weak.

I'm so sorry we bought it.

We have taken care of it mechanically and it still isn't good.

2002 Hyundai Accent GS 1.6

Summary:

It's a good throw away car

Faults:

Well - 2002, bought it in 2004 - it was still under half the manufacturers warranty - both power window tracks broke - had to have the 02 sensor replaced - TP sensor.

Now at 54000 miles on it the transmission needs to be rebuilt - This is under normal driving conditions and I did have my car in overdrve 99% of the time I drove it. I don't care how cheap the car is - you shouldn't have to be replacing the transmission at 54K miles.

General Comments:

Positive notes - it is great on gas - but there are other cars that are just as cheap and good on gas, that don't have as many problems.

2002 Hyundai Accent L 1.5

Summary:

Wonderful, roomy, economical car that I love!!

Faults:

I have never had a problem with this car, the 2002 Hyundai Accent L; it's a manual with wonderful shifting, no loud noises, and maneuvers very well.

The only thing I don't like is that the seat belt cuts into my collar bone because it's a two door; nothing that a cushion couldn't fix

General Comments:

Before this car, I had a 2002 Hyundai Accent GL, and it was an automatic. I bought it with 43,000, and within one year I was having problems with the transmission, and the struts.

When it comes to the transmission, I took it to anyone and everyone, but they could not diagnose the correct problem. We changed the trans fluid a few times, and even a new trans didn't help. I do not recommend the automatic Hyundai's, only the manual. I got rid of that car within 2 years and got another Hyundai that I love, and it's very reliable and cheap, which is what I need, being a college student.

The car is wonderful with gas, getting me 27 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

I have had the car for a year now, and I have not needed any brakes; only thing I have gotten is the oil changes to maintain the car.
