1 recall for a defective switch.

This car has been totally reliable and trouble free for us.

It runs and starts great even at -20 degrees.

The interior cloth and paint are very durable and show no wear even though we have small children.

2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS 1.8

Summary:

A very economical and refined car for the money

General Comments:

This is a very economical car.

This car has a great warranty.

We've never had a single problem with this car.

Rear headroom is lacking.

I don't like the sun visor positions when up, it is too low and obstructs vision.

Don't buy this car with a moon roof if you're over 5' 8" tall or else the top of your head will be hitting the roof of the car.

30,000, 60,000 miles checkups are very expensive.

2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS 1.8 DOHC

Summary:

Peppy econo sedan that is reliable

Faults:

The only thing to go wrong with this car is a flat tire even though it was stock and a can of Fix-a-Flat took care of it I can't blame Hyundai for it.

General Comments:

Interior is spacious and comfortable.

I really enjoy driving a 140bhp car that I bought for so little money. This car has enough juice to keep the average sedan driver happy. The only complaint I have here is the auto tranny is a little bit twitchy. If your driving along at say 40mph, your already in 4th gear. If you hit the gas to change lanes the tranny quickly shifts to 3rd and stays there for a few seconds. Then the tranny decides it wants to give you a little more by shifting into 2nd gear? I should add that while it makes the shift (about.5 seconds) your car almost slows down, and after the shift it takes off like a bat outta hell and roars like a sports.

I do love this car, but unfortunately for the Hyundai I graduated from college and I'm ready for a sports car.

There is only one thought I would like to leave with potential buyers this car embodies the phrase 'Bang for your buck'. In other words you get a hell of a lot of bang for very few bucks.

2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS wagon 4 cyc

Summary:

Without the warranty you would be bankrupt!

Faults:

The car pulls to left since new. I had it checked at 11,000 miles and was told everything is in specification. I've just lived with it.

A transmission leak required a new gasket at 23,000 miles.

The wiper arm would not hold the blade to the window and needed to be replaced at 28,000 miles.

The cigarette lighter outlet stop working at 28,000 miles.

The exhaust manifold cracked making exhaust system very noisy. The manifold and catalytic converter was replaced at 38,000 miles.

The wagon hatch would not latch closed. The latch mechanism was replaced at 54,000 miles.

The driver side power window would not open or close (motor works) at 59,980 miles (whew! just shy of warranty end).

General Comments:

The paint is poor quality. It almost washes off the car with water!

I purchased the car mostly because of the warranty. I have had good service at my two local dealerships. Hyundai certainly lost money on me. While I haven't had to pay for these repairs they certainly have been time consuming and they do NOT inspire confidence in the car. I have never had a car with so many problems.

The car is usually very responsive and quick. The exception is when the car is coasting (low engine rpm) around 25-30 mph and you punch it. There is a very annoying delay while the transmission tries to figure out what gear it should be in. You could easily get into an accident if you assume the car would react with its otherwise great responsiveness.
