1994 Hyundai Excel 1.4 litre

Summary:

Good reliable car, with great gas mileage

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This car was the most reliable car I have ever had. It never had any problems (mostly because there are't enough parts in the car to have any). Everything worked, but the lack of power steering hurt the car's performance marks completely. It was extremely gas efficient, and was excellent in the snow... would buy again.

1994 Hyundai Excel

Faults:

Got the car for my 17th birthday only had 40k Miles on it. Two weeks later Fuel Gauges stopped working had to replace Fuel Sending Unit 40k.

45k Transmission started jerking. Found out it was the motor Mount.

45k still tranasmission jerking when upshifting. Replaces Tranmission.

46k Transmisson Start to jerk again was so bad that Muffler fell off. Replaces Tranny again.

50k Battery Replaces, Brakes.

55k A/C Belt was making a lot of noise. Everyone turned there heads.

56k Tranmission giving me problems again so replaced it again Thank God for warranty.

57k Fuel Pan Dropped Lost all my Oil.

58k Transmisson jerking again, Transmission replaced.

58k Two weekes later Tranny Replaced AGAIN.. Come on how many Tranny does this car need.

60k on the way to work HOT DAY A/C running started getting Smoke inside the car Hose from Rad. Busted and leaked into Tranny Causing it to smoke and look up on me @ 60mph. Towed to Hyundai no longer wanted to replace with Wattery Towed from Hyundai back home to my house where it sat for about a month then donated.

Found out it was sold at a Auction and driving 10 miles then sold to someone else.

General Comments:

Never would buy another Hyundai again. I should of kept my 1979 Honda Accord. Left the Hyundai went to a 84 Honda Accord that was my others for a few weekes and then purchased a 1991 Honda Accord. Well always buy HONDA PRODUCT.

I have a 94 Excel and it has been outstanding. No probs at all. It's an econo box but it's great for scooting around town.

The car liked to eat alternator belts.

Had a very noisy Cam Shaft.

The transmission started to slip during the last month of ownership.

It had no power at all.

Every time I started it a big cloud of black smoke came out of the tail pipe.

The car was very reliable.

It never left me by the side of the road.

It always started up even in -30 degree weather.

1994 Hyundai Excel 1.5

Summary:

No con in this economy car

Faults:

Transmission went out at 115000 miles. I ordered a re-manufactured for under $1000. I also replaced the clutch and CV axles at the same time, not that either were necessary.

I came across a cheap pair of rims off of a Hyundai S'coupe. The wider rims make this car handle just as well as my CRX, if not better.

My rear window has started to rust, but no leaks so far.

Place were wiper blades are mounted stripped at about 128000 miles.

General Comments:

This car out performed my CRX, although the CRX was in very bad shape when I got it.

Very strong, this car has been stuck in traffic on a 90+ degree day, with the AC on full blast, and still didn't overheat. In fact, the coolant hasn't been replaced since I've owned it.

I do change the oil every 2500 miles or so, and all the plugs and wires, etc have been replaced when I first got the car.

The front seats are stained, but I can't explain because they were there when I got it. Otherwise, the interior is in really good shape, easily maintained.

This car will remain in my family because of it's durability and track record. It was very cheap to buy, but knowing it's reliability, I would have paid a lot more. My uncle thought he was unloading a junker to me, was he ever wrong. I am confident in saying this car is well on it's way to 200000 miles.

In regards to the windshield wipers I've had the same problem on a different car. I think the metal of the wiper arms become brittle over time and crack at the point where they are mounted. Mine flew off while I was driving one day.
