1991 Infiniti G20

Faults:

For older 91 model, this is fun little luxury car to ride. Although I had a bad experience with the engine and tranny. It has a common problem with manual models; after 100K miles 5th gear wears off and pops out. My friend had a same car with same problem; bad manual tranny.

Another common problem with this car; the driver's front window motor goes out really fast.

1991 Infiniti G20 2.0 SR20DE

Summary:

The three s': Solid, Sr20, and Sexy

Faults:

I just got this car. When I bought it, the previous owner had just put a brand new tranny, clutch, and power steering pump inside.

I just fixed an overheating problem (the coolant only needed to be bled).

I LOVE this car so much that it is unhealthy. I have wanted one since I was about 11 years old (I am 17 now, BTW). The styling is AWESOME, and the stock SR20DE is simply unmatched by any Honda b18 or Toyota 22r.

The handling simply must be witnessed to be believed. It out-handles most new cars, and that is not an exaggeration... the 91-93 models and the 94-96 "t" models have stiffer spring rates for better cornering.

General Comments:

Test drive one, or you are seriously missing out!!!

Make sure you get the manual tranny, because it makes this car a completely different animal from the power-draining automatic.

Go to www.g20.net for more information and modding ideas (my SN there is sentra024)

Oh yeah, NISSAN/INFINITI rules.

1991 Infiniti G20

Summary:

This is a fun, but practical car -- a good buy

Faults:

The transmission went out. Specifically, 5th gear will not work. It will run fine at 60 MPH on the highway in 4th gear and still get 30 MPG.

The clutch is wearing pretty low now too, but for 230,000 miles, this is quite good!

One of the automatic windows is beginning to slow.

General Comments:

When getting parts for the car, but Nissan parts -- they are the same, only cheaper. The car is great. It works hard. Gets great mileage. Shifts smooth. I recommend the car.

I agree with "fun and practical" :) My friends think my car is so swanky for its age. It has 280,000 miles on it and it shows no sign of dying. My clutch feels a bit worn too- the shifting ain't so easy as it could be. I just had a hose replaced on the power steering, and there's a slow oil leak. Otherwise it shows no sign of dying (like my 76 Volvo which remains on the road with another person till this day). All the nifty stuff still works too- power locks, windows, sunroof. Hooray for well-made cars!

I recently bought a 1991 Infiniti G20 that has 223,000 miles on it... it runs really well, likes highway driving better than the constant start-stop of driving in Los Angeles (going from 1st to second sometimes is hiccup-y)

I have a question for those of you with this car: would it be dumb of me to drive this car across country from S. California to Toronto, say?

I don't know a lot about cars, but this one feels good and I hear that the car can go for over 300K miles... just don't want to be stupid! Thanks!

Previous post asked if it would be dumb to drive the car from So Cal to Toronto... when I got mine from my brother (205K miles on it), I had no problems going from So Cal to Washington/Idaho. I've put on another 20 K miles and car runs fine. Just minor maintenance issues you'd expect from an 18 year old car but the motor will go forever.

Sort of bums me out since this was supposed to be a "temporary" ride where I could run it into the ground and get another vehicle. Looks like I'll have it for another 5 years (I don't drive that far to work but figure the motor will last until 300K)
