1994 Infiniti G20 2.0 DOHC I-4

Summary:

A great car used or new!

Faults:

No problems to report. Beware of cars with automatics (rumor has it the automatic transmission only lasts about 100K miles before a rebuild is needed).

General Comments:

This car was leased in April of 1994 by my father. Then I took over possession and upkeep of the car in December of 1999. After 7 years of brisk driving the car is still tight and rattle free. Of the total 96K miles about 70K were interstate and highway miles from Indianapolis to Fort Wayne.

I average about 21 mpg and that is almost all in town driving of about 5-10 (this has been for the last year and a half) miles at the most. When I drive interstate only (I recently took a trip to Detroit Michigan and averaged 36 mpg, that is with 4 people in it who weighed an average of 225 lbs each, trip made with one tank of gas, approximately 339 miles with enough gas to come back another 45 miles, note that is with regular unleaded).

The driving position is very good and blind spots are negligible. The seats are very comfortable and supportive. The interior is composed of very high quality materials (ie: door trim panels are actually leather, the seats are completely leather (not leather surfaced with vinyl backings).

The handling is very tight (just enough power-steering, believe me the steering is not light, it has some weight to it). There is minimal body roll in the corners and it is hard to squeal the tires while going around a corner (that is with Yokohama tires, those are factory replacements).

The wheels are 14x6", however there are a plethora of after-market wheels available. Note: the car has 96444 miles and the original factory brakes have never been replaced (they still will lock the tires up on dry pavement, yes the car has ABS), also the factory clutch has never been changed, they will last up to 120K miles depending on how the car is driven.

Acceleration is very good (0-60 in approximately 8.3 seconds).

1994 Infiniti G20 Touring 2.0

Summary:

A great used car to look for

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong since we've had it...

General Comments:

Underpowered in low gears, transmission squeals annoyingly at 65 mph or more.

1994 Infiniti G20 5 Speed 2.0L 16V I-4

Faults:

Absolutly nothing, although seat belt recall did not apply to this car.

General Comments:

One hell of a car. Engine needs more punch, could use a turbo or V-6, but 0-60 in 8.5 seconds isn't slow. Shifter seems a little clunky into reverse but who's isn't. Easily the best car I've ever owned. Seat seems a little hard after 80K miles, absolutely perfect condition. I'd buy another in the snap of a finger!
