1990 Iveco EuroTurbo Zeta 18-14 5.8 turbo diesel

Summary:

Strange, but easy to maintain, very reliable, simple and efficient

Faults:

The rust on the outside is one of the biggest problems. I bought it when it was 15 years old and the problem was already there; it persisted the entire time I owned it. The sheet metal isn't very good, to be honest.

Despite its simple mechanics, it had minor electrical problems, including wiring issues, battery problems, and alternator failures.

The biggest problem wasn't fixing the problems (which was easy) but finding the necessary parts. The vehicle was sold in the US during the 1980s and early 1990s, but few were seen, so I had to be very careful when replacing parts.

My turbocharger failed once, causing the engine to lose power. Luckily, being old school, it wasn't difficult to fix, but it was still a headache.

General Comments:

Despite its rugged appearance, almost more reminiscent of a Soviet vehicle than an Italian one, it's surprisingly easy to handle, at least in urban areas and small towns, where it moves with remarkable agility. Being a turbocharged engine greatly enhances its mobility, with excellent low-end torque.

For a light truck from the 80s, it came fairly well-equipped with power steering and air conditioning (something unusual for that type of vehicle at the time). The interior materials are of low to medium quality, although nothing broke, just the typical vibrations and noises of a utility vehicle used exclusively for hauling and work.

The two-passenger cab features adjustable high-back bucket seats with multicolor upholstery that extends to the door panel inserts. Black rubber mats line the footwells.

The two-spoke steering wheel including a 120-km/h (75 mph) speedometer , a tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, brake-system pressure, and fuel level.

The engine is a 5.8-liter turbodiesel with 140 horsepower. For the type of light truck it is, this is more than enough power. Acceleration is somewhat mediocre (it's not designed for that, after all), but it offers plenty of versatility and agility. Fuel consumption is also low, even lower than my C10 that I had before the EuroTurbo. The engine hasn't given me any problems in over 15 years; it's taken me everywhere and has been perfectly adequate for my work on the farm.

Not many of these have been seen around here, but I rate my personal experience with the EuroTurbo positively.
