1989 Jaguar XJ12 Vanden Plas 5.3 V12 gasoline

Summary:

Despite all the problems, I would buy another one in a heartbeat!

Faults:

Failed bushings.

Exhaust leaks.

Oil leaks.

Failed alternator.

Failed cooling fan (fragmented while driving - destroyed the radiator).

Failed water pump.

Heater core leak.

Failed AC.

Failed cruise control.

Failed high beam relay.

Headliner failed.

Power steering lines leaked.

General Comments:

It is an absolutely amazing car to drive. Smooth, comfortable, and fast - especailly for its size. It isn't too bad on gas especially since it is a V12 (about 21-25 mpg). It is a great highway car, especially if the highway has some fun corners.

The interior is a mix of Connelly leather, real wood (burled walnut), Wilton carpets, and lambs wool floor mats.

1989 Jaguar XJ12

Summary:

Phenomenal

Faults:

Wiring harness needed to be replaced. 50,000 miles.

General Comments:

We own two XJ12 convertibles; one is black and one is red. They are extremely fun to drive and it is a blast watching people's heads turn. One car is really tight and reliable. The other one has a couple issues after someone reworked and bored out the engine.

Does anyone know a good mechanic for these cars in the Minneapolis/Northern area. Jaguar dealership doesn't really know this British engine.

I know this is an old post, but the vehicle described is not an XJ12, but rather an XJS with the V-12 engine, which they all had in the USA in 1989. An XJ12 is a sedan and was never offered as a convertible.
